BI Costello, foreman of the round house, went to Lincoln Monday for a visit. Myrtle Beattie went to Chase, Monday to spend the summer with her aunt. Mrs Poland went to Leavenworth last Monday to attend the funeral of her father. Horn Myers, 315 Commercial street, gives especial attention to the renting of city property. Dick Sithen, shop foreman at the Central Branch shops, was called to Illinois Tuesday by the death of a relative. The Western Union will run its wires across the bridge in a cable, the cable resting on a pivot in the middle of the draw. Newcomb left Monday night for New Orleans, going from there to Ocean Springs, for an extended visit with Lis uncle.

Mary Downs had a warrant issued Monday for George Bertenshaw, charging him with disturbing the peace Saturday night. Katie Sears, age 43, of Atchiand John' Payne, aged 43, of son, Denver, were married in Leavenworth Tuesday by the probate judge. An exhorbitant price adds nothing to the quality of a photograph. 703 Commercial street. Stuart Robson, who appeared Wednesday night at the opera house was the best attraction of the season. His production of Goldsmith's comedy, Stoops to is the best piece in which this favorite actor has ever appeared. Robson was supported by an excellent company. The city officials are being urged to macadamize South Tenth street from the railroad to a connection with the Mount Vernon macadam.

The city agreed to do this if the county would build its portion of the road. The county road is completed, but the city has never done anything in regard to its part of the agreement. J. H. O. H. Perry has one hundred thousand strawberry plants for sale in his nursery in the noothwest part of the city. There will be two attractions at the theatre next week: Rusoo Holland's minstrels on the 22nd. and We Were Twenty One" on the 24th.

For the first time in several years the police court opened at 8 o'clock Wednesday morning. A law recently passed, which went into effect April 15 set that as the time. Tom Newell, superintendent of construction of the bridge, accom panied by his engineer, Edgar, went to his home in Kansas City Sunday. From there he goes to New Mexico to do bridge work for a railroad. Pittman, Ed Pittman and George Brady left for the Peace river valley in Canada, Tuesday, to take up homesteads.

If the country comes up to their expectations, they expect a good many to join them in the fall. The following Atchison men went to Leavenworth Tuesday to attend the state gun shoot: Will Baldwin, John Leath, Louie Erhardt, MI Creager, Dr Jones, Lytle, Will and John Crall, Andy Fulton, Jim Gray, Stout, Warren Ferguson and Jim Johnson. The dam built at Sugar Lake lake Armour and Wood Bros. last fall, broke loose Saturday night, and the lake in all probability will be completely drained. No effert has been made to check the flow of water. The government steamer Henrietta passed up the river Monday, and the bridge draw was turned by hand for the first time.

Prater holds the record of being the oldest groom in the annals of Atchison cunty He is a hale and hearty man, and does not look as old as he is, and claims that he can chop three oords of wood in a day. This is his second matrimonial venture, he having married the first time at the age of forty. To the Farmers- -When in town take your teams in out of the weather, and have them fed at the Post Office livery barn, where prompt attention will be given, and the price made low. We want the public to know that the Atchison Nursery company is ready for business with a full stook of trees and shrubery. Also all kinds of northern grown and Kansas grown peach trees at the lowest prices.

Thomas Moss, aged 55 years, died at 11 o'clock Tuesday night, at the home of his sister, Mrs Shuch, on South Tenth street, of a complicagion of diseases. The funeral was held from the residence yesterday at 2 p. m.

James Truesdell, aged 72 years, died suddenly Sunday morning of heart failure at his home at 920 South Fifth street. The funeral was held Monday at 2 p. m. Peter Steele, colored, aged 74 years, died Wednesday night at his home at 604 North Sixth street of inflamatory rheumatism. The funeral was held this morning.

The town improvement association meets one week from tonight in the basement of the Congregational church. The oak piling used for the false work at the bridge has been sold to a Kansas City lawyer. The piles will be rafted down the river to Kansas City where they will be used in the construction of the Winner bridge.

The Blair Milling company has purchased the old Fowler smoke house and smoke stack in East Atchison, and will tear them down and remove the brick to this side, as they contemplate to do some building in the near future. It is estimated that there are 1,000,000 brick in the structures. Messrs Donnallan and Resger, who began in the implement business March 1 on Main street between 8th and 9th, are doing a heavy business. They handle all kinds of farm machinery, wagons and buggies, and are energetio and affable men and are driving things. Miss Adelia R.

Berlin and Mr. Ferdinand Nyman were married Tuesday night at the home of the bride, 413 Park street, the Rev. Dr. Boyle, assisted by Rev. Keyser, officiating.

The bride was becomingly attired in a dress of dahlia colored venetian cloth and carried a boquet of bride's roses. Mr and Mrs Nyman left for Kansas City the same evering. They will take a trip over Mr Nyman's territory in Kansas and return to Atchison to reside. The bride is the only daughter of Mr and Mrs Berlin and has lived in Atchison since her childhood. Mr Nyman formerly lived in Atchison and was employed by Norman Son, jewelers, and went with the firm when they moved to Kansas City.

Mayor Orr made the following appointments Friday night, in executive session, and all were confirmed by the council: Firemen- -William Hoover, Fred Strafford, George Keltsch, Gustave Schiebe, Herman Weisenthal, Adams, and Bohannon.

They vere all recommended by John Compton, chief of the department, to whom the selection had been left. -Frank McDonald to succeed Frank Briggs, Peter Parsons to succeed Thomas Harrington, Walter Dunkin to suoceed Horgan. succeed Graves. Day jailer -J Cunningham to Night jailer Messimer to stoceed Lott. Chain gang guard--John Benning to succeed William Edson.

City engineer- -Fred Giddings to succeed himself. Poor commissioner to serve until the new law goes into effect--Ben Early. There are three more patrolmen to appoint, and a market master. For this last position there are so many qualified applicants that it is hard to reach a decision. As no one was appointed for street commissioner, Foottit is holding over.

When the meeting returned to open session, Dr Finney was elected president of the council by unanimous vote. Donnellan Rosger have just received a fine line of buggies and road wagons. It will pay, you to examine their stock and prices before buying. In cleaning up for spring remember that Browning cleans suits for $1 and pants for 25cts. Coats relined.

P. freight office here, and well remembered by many Atchison people, was recently promoted from depot agent at Mena, to a similar position at Texarkana. At a farewell banquet given by the business men of Mena before his departure, he was presented with a sold gold chain and medal. James Tarman, treasurer of the city republican committe, has filed a statement with the city clerk showing that $903.15 was collected and expended. $366.50 was spent for hack hire and $408 for booming the registration, The statement of the democratic committee shows that $998 was collected and expended, the principal part of which was expended for hack hire and booming the registration.

The suit clubs which have been running here for some time have quit. The merchant tailors who were not engaged in the suit club business, appointed a committee to call on County Attorney Waggener, and urge him to stop the olubs, as they were in violation of the lottery law and that they were injuring their business. After fully investigating the affair Mr Waggener notified the Weber Clothing and a Kansas City, concern, that they were violating the lottery law and would have to quit the suit club business. The plan of the club was: You pay in $1 a week. Every Saturday night there is a drawing, and the one holding the lucky number gets a $38 suit of clothes without further cost.

The club runs for 38 weeks, and at the end of that time you get at $38 suit of clothes if you have not been fortunate enough to hold a lucky number.
