Lincoln School, Pittsburg, won first honors with a score of 389 They were given a bust of Abra-; ham Lincoln donated by Welch and Co. Central Building, Girard, woa; first with 379. They werp a framed painting. North Building, Girard scored second and were given a framed painting. McCune High School team were awarded a century book of facts and Mulberry High School a two volume encyclopedia.

OLD FOLK'S DIVISION Mrs. Lillie Lashley won first honors and was awarded $2:00 cash. Mrs. S. D.

Smith wcto second and was given $1.00 cash. O. C. Boroughs won third and was given 50ct cash. DISTRICT PRIZES The following persons were awarded prizes for making the highest score in their district.

I CARPENTERt FOR THE BEST TOOLS THAT WILL HOLD THEIR EDGE, COME TO US- Girard, Kansas, March 23rd. 12 Over 60 rural schools represented and almost every city school in the county also the Pittsburg Business College and Catholic School of Frontenac. 280 eontestants. Notwithstaading the -wind, snow, sleet and blinding gale that visited the eonnty last Saturday, there were over 400 out of town people at the county spelling contest making it necessary to divide the crowd into three parts. One part at the high school building one at the epera house and the other at the court house.

AH buildings were crowded in the afternoon and one of the most exciting events of an educational nature that the county has known was witnessed by the throng of spectators. There were three gneral divisions besides the "Old Folks the high school, grammar grades, and the intermediate grades. The last two took both written and oral spelling while the high school and business division took only the written work. Keith Thronson of Farlington won first honors in the grammar grades. Edith Cenrad, Lincoln School, Pittsburg won first honors in intermediate.

Lillie E. Lashley in the old folks division and the high school division resulted in a tie for first place with a grade of 100 each those trying for first honors were Flora ijeaman of Monmouth Mae Davied of Girard and Will Northeutt of Pittsburg Businrss College.
