This week the painter will about complete his part of the work on Geo. Metz' house, which will complete it for occupancy. The carpenters finished up their work this week. This week it afford us pleasure to publish ne oration of Miss Hattie E. Harrison, who was graduated from the Athison County High School last week.

Miss Harrison was formerly employed in the Herald office, and is one of Huron's most popular young ladies. Last week it was reported in Horton and other neighboring towns that there was a case of small-pox In Huron, but the report wa3 false. No Huron people -have been exposed to the terrible disease so far as known, and the citizen have not felt any danger of it reaching here! Mayor McClain and Marshal Smith, of Huron, were in the city the first of the week. Mayor McClain Is full of praise for his town, and we are satisfied he is made of the right stuff. Huron is in good nands at home or abroad.

Logsdon's liacket has constantly on hand every sort of novelties in the tin line and kitchen novelties. Thursday evening a small party of ibout twelve or fifteen, spent the evening at Dr. Jones' residence. The Missouri Pacific must have succeeded to securing a coal supply from the number of trains running of late. James Eillingslea went over to Topeka day before yesterday evening to watch the proceedings of the state convention.

Mrs. S. L. Carpenter was up from Kansas City, Thursday of last week, was accompanied home by Grandpa Carpentei'. Since the extreme dry weather that would make the sight of water quite welcome the tank has not run over but or twice.

Mrs. Alice Herring and baby, Wil-ima, and Miss Carrie Lonberger, of Willis, were guests of Mrs. AV, D. the first of tho week. Saturday evening the Everest band down ana serenaded Huron, and distributed advertising matter for their Fourth of July celebration.

The boys rendered some good music, which was appreciated. Sunday morning the Children's Day were presented at the Presbyterian church to a very large congregation. The program was good and interspersed with a number of nice musical selections. The Sunday school of the Christian church marched pver to attend the service in a body. Sunday evening the Christian church Sunday school gave a very nice pro gram in observing Children's Day.

The musical feature was especially good, the choir having selected a number of beautiful anthems. The whole program was delivered well, and met with hearty appreciation. genuine base ball enthusiast who has played with the Huron club. Ho Is as happy as a bee in a buckwheat patch when he gets hold of a baseball. Wednesday of last week the Huron boys played the Eohlnson club, at their home ground, and won by Huron, bv a score of 31 to 10.

The Eobinson club made tho game unpleasant by persistent kicking on points in the game. They had also" agreed to pay the Huron club a sum to go and play, but when the game was concluded the gate receipts seemed to disappear, and it was not until some of the business men of Robinson learned of their club's unfairness that the matter was adjust eti. It is probable that this kind of double-dealing is the reason the Kob Inson club has not been able to secure any games with neighboring clubs; C. H. Young was up from Atchison today.

Celebrate the Fourth of July at Huron. Come to Huron for a good time on the Fourth. Our citizens are all busy preparing for a grand time on the Fourth. John Curley, the barber, is seriously sick, and his recovery is very doubtful. E.
