Kansas has 71 daily and 775 weekly newspapers according to a count made by yqr, Adams, Secretary of the State Historical Society. This is an Increase of 40 daily and 329 weeklies pince June, 1885. Secretary Adams preserves files of all the papers published in the state. The exports of wheat and flour reduced to their equivalent in wheat from this country for the year ending June 80th were larger than ever reported in any preyious year with the exc3ption of 1880 and 1881. They amount to a grand total of 151,789,136 bushels.

Of this amount about one-third, or the equivalent of nearly fifty-one, million bushels, was exported in flour. This would be a yery satisfactory showing had not prices ruled so low as to return little profit to the growers in this country. It would be very gratifying if there was anything in present conditions to warrant the expectation of better prices for this year's crop, but at present such conditions are not discernible to our vision. The sugar works at Fort Scott started up a few days ago, audit is claimed this time a success has been made We most sincerely hope that it is true, that sugar can be profitably made from sorghum cane, but we suspect that it will prove to be the old thing in the end.
