Allison of Iola was in town yesteaday. He says the "election contest is still grinding but that the evidence is in, and the Attorney's are preparing their argument. L. Brown. As was announced by the County papers last week, he was compelled, as the result of an old army wound, to have one of his legs amputated, and for soveral days it was hoped that he would recover, but the strain upon his already weakened system was too much and resulted in his death. Allen County has lost a good man and one who was respected by all who knew him. We are glad to note that the business men of the town have begun to act on the suggestion made by The Herald a few weeks ago, in regard to protection against fire.

This week a subscription was circulated and liberally responded to by property holders, for the purpose of raising funds and sinking a large cistern and equiping it with a powerful force pump and the necessary hose and putting a building carry you to the hotel in his bus free, besides, Hardware at Varner's.
