K. Codding went to Kansns City, Monday, to represent several of the slxareholders in the new north telephone line, which it is reported has gone into the hands of a receiver. Sunday evening a fire broke out in one of the rooms at the home of M. F. Moore, in this city, and before it was extinguished, did much damage from smoke to clothing, bedding, ect.

It was narrow escape from a serious fire. A ooal oil stove is responsible for the fire. Logan Friend, the lumber men, have bought the lots east of the Christian church and will make them ready for the putting in of a lumber yard as soon as the new railroad i complete to this town. They are energetic business men, wide awake to all good, hence this move. Archie Toothaker's new Wheaton paper came to our exchange table last Saturday.

It is a good thing he has a rich dad. We sunk $150 in trying to give Wheaton a good paper but they would not have it. May be Archie has them tied up; we hope so, and then he will do'em hard while he has'em. The, thermometor registered 32 degrees below zero at the LaPierre, last Sunday morning, while many about town showed down at 30. Fred II.

Keyser, though one and all wish for them unmeasured prosperity, though the word prosperity doesn't figure in Friend Keyser's manual. A deed from Sidney Dillon, receiver of the West end of the Central Branch, was filed a few days ago, on which there were $1,017.00 in" U. S. revenue stamps. And it is now said that 6leed, Ware Gleed, will push the Topeka, Westmoreland Waterville road, in the interest of the Santa Fe, the purchaser of the west end of the C.

B. On Tuesday, the 7th Hon. S. Fee-departed this life at his home in Wamego. lie was the nominee for probate judge on the republican ticket last fall, thereby becoming well-known to nearly all our citizens, who one and all deplote his passing away.

For one of his age, he was a remarkable spry, energetic man, and with it had many friends. J. L. Rogers, cashier of our bank, and Mrs. Nannie Cave-OfDaniel, tench-er of the primary department of our public schools, were united in marriage, Sunday noon, February 12, 1899, a the home of the bride's uncle, Dr.

T. It. Cave, in Westmoreland. They are among the most popular of our young folks, and will please accept the congratulations of their hosts of friend. They are now at Kansas City, making extensive purchases preparitory to bouse, keeping on their Westmoreland donated $10,000, nnd Rock Creek township subscribed $18,000 to tl capital stock of the Kansas Southern railway lust Saturday afternoon.
