-Winnie L. Pierce passed away at the home of her son Will Pierce, south of town Monday morning at a ripe old age. Funeral services were held at the house Wednesday by Rev. Gibbons and the remains laid to rest in the Star cemetery north of the river. Full obituary will appear next week.

W. O. Huss went down 10 Wichita last Saturday to meet his two daughters from Oklahoma, Mrs. Schoonover from Pond Creek, and Mrs. Strobel, of Kremlin, who were on their way to Mt.

Hope to spend the holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Huss, at the old home east of town, where they spent their girlhood da s. In the language of Mrs. Huss over the phone, "We are having the time of our lives." and we'll just bet they are too.

Through the generosity of our good friends, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Kennedy, the Farbrother and Woolman families enjoved Christmas last Sunday at the latter's home in company with a fine corn fed Missouri turkey which Mrs.

Kendedy brought back with her. It is a pleasure to be remembered by such kind friends, and such actions make us feel glad that we live in such a community as we have here. The T. A. T.

Club met with Mrs. Orin Sarles with Miss Lucy Hoover as hostess this week. In spite of the cold there was a goodly number present to enjoy the elegant lunch of cold turkey, dressing, cranberries, bread and butter sandwiches. salted almonds, fruit salad, cake, coffee and candy. Mrs.

Arthur Livengood was a club guest. Miss Lizzie Curry carried off the prize in the turkey contest. 'The Club will meet January 2nd with Miss Grace McCormick. Happy New Year To Our Friends. Patrons and All.

M. Reichenberger was transacting business in Mt. Hope between trains last Saturday. He made his usual plersant visit at this office while here. The Billy Sunday meetings came to a close in Wichita last Sunday with 5300 converts and a free will offering of over $10,000 for Billy's six week's work.

FOR SALE-Rhode Island Red and Brown Leghorn Cockerels. MRS. JOIN OVERMAN. GOOD DINNER. The writer and family and Miss Floy Clark, of Burrton accepted the kind invitation of -Misses Letha and Lulu Marshall to eat Christmas dinner with them at their cosy little home on Fourth Avenue.

The girls had the rooms tastefully decorated with Christmas belts and bunches of holly. At two o'clock we were usheren into the dining room where Miss Letha had prepared one of the best. dinners we have ever set down to. It was certainly a dinner that will long be rememberd by us. CHRISTMAS AT CHURCHES, All the Sunday Schools of Mt.

Hope observed Christmas with appropriate exercises and trees this year. The fact that the program at each church was held on different nights caused overfiow houses at each place. Each, program showed careful training and valuable and useful presents were distributed from the trees. The Christian people observed theirs on Saturday evening, the Congregational on Sunday and the Methodist Ou Monday. DRAWING NEXT TUESDAY.

All parties holding tickets on the drawing at Mrs. Martinis are hereby notitied that the drawing will take place at the opera house nest Tuesday afternoon. January 12nd, at three o'clock. All persons holding tickets must be there at that time or send your tickets to the printing office. The winning numbers must be in the house at the time.

POSTAL SAVING RANK The local postoffice has been designated a postal saving bank and Postmaster Dick received the necessar: supplies for its operation the first of the week. They will, protably Open for business sometime in January. Cold weather and no gas has been the order of things the past tv weeks. Mrs. Will Hattan is spending the holidays with her daughter at lastings, Oklahoma.

40 BIG TIME WITH F.A.A. Last Thursday evening was anothel pleasant event with the local F. A. A. lodge.

L. D. Roberts, the newly elected General Secretary. was with us and after the regular business had been finished, he made us a good plain talk concerning the workings of the order and what is expected of it during the next two years. Mr.

Roberts made a good impression with our people and those who braved the weather to hear him are fully convinced that he will make good in the discharge of the important duties he has entered upon. After his talk the Inen folks present, with: W. W. Tucker chief cook, served oysters. pickles and coffee.

The Fraternal Aid Association is the largest order in Mt. Hope, and is still looking for new members, so it you contemplate taking out any more insurance it might be well to investigate the F. A. A. SOME POLICE COURT HAPPENINGS.

Berger Wray and a Mr. Wilson were taken into custody by Marshall Cornwall last Saturday night and lodged in jail charged with breaking large holes in several of our city ordinances. They were kept until Tuesday morning and summonsed to appear before Judge Reel for driving an auto faster than the speed limit, and one with being drunk and disorderly. Tuesday morning Dall Roberts was also arrested for participing in the fast riding. Wilson was first on trial and after a somewhat long trial he was found guilty and tined 810 and costs.

Wray was next and plead guilty. He paid a fine of $20 and costs, after which the cases against Wilson were dismissed providing Wray and Wilson would leave town. Thus ended 31 very strenuous session of Police Court. REUNION ON THE COAST. The Me.

Hope Colony on the Pacific Coast held a family reunion at Long Beach, California, on Christmas day. Those present were. the J. B. Hemmant family, the Fred V.

Williams funily, the Mat Fultz family, the C. A. Marched family, G. A. linkie? Marcia Kirk, Nellie Jewell.

Hope was thorougly discussed, and of course we have no way of telling, but we'll wager it was a homesick bunch too, as they sat in the sunshine and thought of 1 the nice sleigh rides they might be enjoying if they were only in the good old Sunflower state. The "North West." Correspondent in last week's Andale Globe, in in our little story of the week before, in which we said that Mt. Hope was the home of some of the best people on earth, wondered if the Editor's opinion of some of the others would look well in pr.nt.

Wel Jim, possibly our private opinion of two cr three would be barred from the mails, but if it ever becomes necessary to publish a public opinion we'll do our best to do it andy believe we can make it plenty strong enough and yet be free from the law. At least we'll not be afraid of any of them if we take a notion to do it. A large number of our infuential farmers held a meeting at the Farmers Elevator office last Saturday for the purpose of discussing the telephone business. We understand some Mans were laid for starting another Independent telephone company in Mt. Hope.
