When the cow ia first turned in to pasture in the spring tho grass in very tender and watery; the cow, being eager to get grass after along winter's feeding on dry feed, fctuffs herself, and the owner naturally expects a great increase at once of butter and milk. If the cow is allowed to Btay in the pasture all day the first day sbo is turned out the result usually is that ehe over-eats and there is no perceptible increase the first day; this is partly owning to the fact that tho cow takes an unusual amount of exercise the first day and this extra work calls for extra feed lor support, less going to the production of milk. A better way is to turn the cow out for an hour or two only the first day, 'a little longer the next, till by third or fourth day she may be allowed the whole day in the field. In the meantime she should have a regular feed of hay and grain in the stable, and this should be continued gradually decreasing the amount-'-until she does not appear to care for it. The dry hay will be benificialat any time during the season when, from frequent rains' the grass gets watery and the cow's bowels become too loose.

The cow craves more salt when on pasture than when on dry feed, and a supply should always be kept where she can get it. Ex( for clothing. ''Never put off for tomorrow what you can do to Sweet potato plants are now large enough to set out. Most of the town cattle are nw in pastures. II.

It was as follows: A band of men had ascendod our stairway, stepped over our De Witt's "peculiar" Sir.aparilla sign we have lately fixed on our steps, and entered the sacred precinct of our apartments and were silently surveying the general scenery. Upon in-iuiry we elicited the fact that they were looking for the place where the man from somewhere was holding court and had taken the "regular strong building" for the "Place of justice pro tem." Of course we directed them the correct way and when they had departed we hastily counted our pieces of furniture and took an impromptu invoice of our "grub" on hand, and like the Arab we silently stole away and as a further precautoin locked the door and emblazoned on the wall and sidewalk the diretion to follow when any one wants to find the Bettes opera house.
