iifkOWN CO. L. D. Loevy returned last Thursday from his eastern trip with a fine iqt of new gu'jus. Griffin and wife, of Marion, Kan sas; are visiting with the family Shall we vote tho court house bonds? and why -To the first question, yes.

To tho second; Because there is now no lecure place to keep th county records, which, those of deed3, mortgages, eteare being kept in a rented room and an insecure-place' at per month or 210 per annum. The last term of court the county was corn Lulled to rent a room to hold court in at an expense of l0 a term, or a year. The extra eipense for bailiffs, will probably make an annual outlay of S13Q, total S500 for extra ex. pense for having no suitable court house. The interest on the court house bonds willainount to $1500, or but one thousand more than the annual expenditures for unnecessaries contingent upon not having a suitable court house.

Then Norton county will have to pay out 81000 per year (and that is a very small estimate) more than she is now paying provided the court house bonds carry, Say an individual paid taxes on $500. and that is about as much as the average farmer pays, his taxes will amount to 1)4 cents more than he now pays. The' present valuation being a million and half jn round numbers, aud the" rate being 'what farmer all Norton county would not pay a yearly tax of 32 cents for the sake of seeing a de cent coiirt house where the thing now stands'that we are compelled to call "court house." Then there1 are other thhies aside trom the natural pride of a Norton county man in what he owns and in the county of his choice. The entire records of the district court and its officers are in a highly exposed condition. All matters Of record in the courts, including judgments, liens, divorce decrees, are liable t6' be destroyed at any time should the disreputable "court house" burned.which, it has nearly been two or three times.

Then there are the blanks, records, etc. of the county treasurer probate''r3dge, comity clerk, sheriff and superintendent, which if alqne destroyed, the entire cost of tho bonds and interest would not repay, to say nothing of tjie deeds court records. Some say that Norton people are so anxious tp have a court bouse because it will give her a boom. Norton people do not deny 'Hut that it will be a great benefit to the city to have a new court house, arid they will pay their share towards build-big it. The city and residents of Norton will pay very nearly one-third of the court house debt, according to' the present rate of taxatiou.

They are willing to do it, because' it will benefit not only the city biit the entire county. What benefits the capital city of any county has a corresponding benefit to putter or tnis city. i Compliments of Mrs. A. J.

In view of the proposition now pending 'wherein it is propose1 to vote twenty five thousand dollars for the erection of a court house, wa deem it proper to state that the safety of our records 'certainly demands the erection of a better house we now have. We will state that the cramped condition of our present offices is such that our oncers are greatly hindered and restricted in the dischaige of their official duties. We will also add that in our judgment the sum asked is quite sufficient to meet the present vvauts of our county and will be ample for a number of years at least. Indeed, the people of Norton are building up a city of which this county may well be proud, and upon her growth depends the improvement and development of this county. Then why cannot the people of this county aid in building for the county not for the city a court house of which we may not be ashamed Ye3, we say to every voter in Norton county, come out next Tuesday and help carry the court hQuse bonds.
