Harry McPherson came up from Washburn college, Wednesday, to eat turkey with his parents. Mrs. H. H. McLellan is spending Thanksgiving with her daughter Miss Lela, at Bethany college.

Kansas City, Mo. The members of the new German Evangelical Church lately erected at Wells Creek, Kaw Township, desire to express their sincere thanks to those who were so liberal in their donations to the church building and to say that the church is now free from all debt. One of our local papers has an pounced twice that "Willie" and her "ma" bad left town. "Willie's ma" still preambulates the streets of St. Marys.

"Willie's ma" is a stayer and stringent measures seem to fail to seperate her feet from St. Marys soil. Advertised Letters. Letters addressed as follows remain uncalled for in the post office at St. Mgrys for the week ending Nov.

and Mrs. Thos. Kiernan, died at the home of his parents last night. John was a good boy and his many friends will be saddened to learn of his death. The supper and social given by the ladies of the Congregational church last Thursday evening was a grand success.

Everyone who attended passed a pleasant evening. They netted about $32. The official election returns of this county are run as a supplement to the EAGLE this week. It makes mighty interesting reading for a Republican but is a little bard on the eyes of our Populist friends. Henry F.

Dedication Services. The dedication of the pew German. Evangelical Church al Wells Creek, Kaw Township, Wabaunsee will be celebrated on Sunday, Dec. 2, 1900. In connection with this, the annual Mission Feast will be seryed also.

Services will commence at 10 a. 2:30 p. m. and 7 o'clock p. m.

An English sermon will be delivered by Rev. H. Barkmann, of Junction City. Kans. Dinner and supper served free to all present.

Co. Council Meeting. The city council met in regular sedsion Tuesday evening. The usual bills were audited and allowed. Several sidewalks were ordered repaired.

It was decided to, purchase a chemical fire engine and the Mayor and Clerk' given power to close a contract. Quite an animated discussion arose over the question of allowing slot machines to. run. It was finally decided that the. use of all such devices should be discontioned.

Captain Huey Dead. The EAGLE made brief mention last week of the death of Captain Ben Huey, which occured at Wamego just as we were going to press. Benj. 'Huey was born in Clarion County, Pennsylvania 62 years ago, and served all through the War of the Rebellion in the 155th and 62nd Pennsylvania regimenta, infantry. He was a captain in the 62nd.

He leaves three sons, Elmer and Walter, of Belvue, and Gus of Oklahoma, and one daughter, Miss Florence Huey, of Belvue. He has a brother, James Huey, at Belvue, another William who lives west of St. George, and two sisters, Mrs. Craig, of Belvue, and Mrs. John Mails, of Manhattan.

Captain Huey was always an active republican and served two terms as Sheriff of this county. He was an interesting character, ever loyal to his friends and an open fighter with those with whom he did not agree. He bad his faults, but over them let the mantle of charity be thrown. The people of this county deeply mourd the death of Ben Huey..
