HOTEL CHAT The Lincoln Hotel company are building a real hotel at Franklin, at a cost of around $70,000. The building is modern in every way and has all the latest conveniences that go to make an up to date house. There are thirty-four guest rooms, a big roomy office, large light and airy dining room and large spacious lobbies both above and below. The Lincoln Hotel company themselves will operate the plant as one of their system of chain hotels across the country. Such a building would be a credit to any city of 20,000 people and the town of Franklin can well be proud of its new hotel.

Hooverizing is right in its place and the boys approve of it as far as fare goes, but the Administration has not yet asked you to try it out on the care or lack of care that you give your sleeping rooms. airing them out and dust them once a week. No one cares, to sleep in a room that's been used to can foul air all day. Ont of the nice little hotels that has up to date modern rooms in every respect, is the McFarland House at Red Cloud, Neb. The little things that make a place home like are looked after atthat place.

Try it the next time you are in Red Cloud. It's quite noticeable that the small town hotels like Athol, and Franklin, spread a much better meal at fifty cents than some of our sacrificing landlords who are losing money in the larger towns at sixty-five cents, but then of course the markets are better in the small towns for variety. Very few hotels this year can afford to keep a landlord luxury around just to play cards and amuse the boys. Some very large leaks in the hotel register could be plugged up by removing these landlord luxuries. Why not draft them for service on the firing-line? They might be of some use there; they are of none here.

The European Hotel is ying in favor all over the country. jJhe new hotel just opened at Kensington, Kansas, and the Avenue at Beloit, Kansas, are now European, while practically all the good hotels of Colorado are. It's all right to get a dollar for a dollar room but there' are a number of hold up institutions in Kansas asking a dollar for rooms that any honest man would be ashamed to ask fifty cents for. A dollar room should have heat, hot and cold running water, and a bed that was endurable and had been made within the week. Several hotels that we could name, that ask a dollar for a room, fail on all of these points.

How about yours? The little new hotel just opened at Kensington is European and modern in all respect, giving Kensington the best hotel in Smith county easily, and the boys who travel in cars will see that it's loaded to capacity with good paying business. Bud is a real hotel man and believes in giving the public the worth of their money. Motor tourists will find Kensington a mighty good place for a night's stop over. The hotel rates in Nebraska, in comparison with the service, are lower than in Kansas. It seems very strange that the small town hotels can put up better service for $2.00 than the larger ones for $2.50.

Drive your car over to the small town, boys, and spend the night and some of the money grabbers will discover the leak in their high price non-serv need for inspection. Not only the roller towel is re-establishing itself but the common drinking cups marching boldly back. Where is Dr. Crumbine? Have the hotel men court-martialed the Doctor? Sure there' are a lot of good hotels -and good hotel men, but that's all the more reason why the boneheads should be drummed out of the business. That would give the man who is inclined to play fair a chance, as he should have.

The hotel inspection law as it stands is about as big a frost as the long whiskered wiseacres at Topeka ever put over. It's a real joke as a law and aside from collecting the annual fees and supporting a few useless and helpless officers of the body politic, it's a dead letter. In the first place any school boy knows that it's bad policy to ask any line of business to stand it's own inspection fees if real inspection is wanted. The Kansas Hotel law was built for office holders. Invite the Lincoln Hotel company to move over into Kansas and get busy building some good hotels in Marys-ville, Concordia, Lincoln, Hays City, Oakley, Smith Center and Norton.

Any of these town's could support good hotels and the Lincoln company is both building and running a line of good houses. The new Bank Hotel at Limon, Colorado, has a very nice line of up to date rooms but is limited in numbers. Our old friend McDaniels is back 'at The Pomeroy Hotel in Hill City, and running a good place as usual. McDaniels is a good hotel man and you may rest assured of good service and the worth of your money in his house. One of the good little places to eat and one of of the deserving hotel men down on the Lincoln branch in Kansas is Read's Hotel at Moreland, Kansas.

Mr. Read is well liked by all the boys and gives real service for the money that you leave with him. We like to see men like Read prosper, this column is always for that kind of hotel men. Never mind about what the other fellow is doing, take a look" over your own house; chances are that there are plenty of rooms that could be straightened up a little and relieved of some of last year's dust. Dust sure gets disagreeable in sleeping rooms after a year's accumulation has started in on the second year, and we could name a hotel that has cobwebs old enough to vote in its sleeping rooms.

The proprietor of that place charges a dollar a night for these sleeping rooms, fifty cents for yourself and fifty cents for the cobwebs. You pay both fifties. By the way, why not cut out asking trade to double up and pay full rates? You wouldn't do it, why ask others to? Most people do not care to double with a stranger whom they never saw bfeore. Why should they? He might be the very best kind of a "man and his fingers might stick to thing of value laying around. In that case would you want your hotel to stand good for the loss? It's not necessary to insult your trade by sticking up signs that read "No checks cashed." If you do not want to cash checks tell 'the boys so when they ask you.

They willx get them cashed somewhere and you would be in a pretty boat if they did not Stick to the National program on meatless and wheatless meals and ZTr 3 YOU will be greatly Made Freih For Your Order pleaaed after you use it.
