Norton is destined to be the great city of the Northwest. It now publishes IRiX papers, and another will soon be in course of publication. On Monday evening the Institute and Jiany visitors listened to a very enter1 wining and instructive lecture from 1 le Hon. E. J.

Turner, Congressman this district. After the lecture the ustitute returned Mr. Turner a vote of tanks. The lecture dealt largely with 1 a methods of enacting laws by reas, and was listened to with great iterest. Monday afternoon, Miss Kiner aphinted the following committees for preparing for the concert Thursday to rening: Ushers: Messrs.

C. I Griffith, W. Bales, F. L. Case, G.

G. Bailey, ohn Gleason and E. Darling. On arngements; Messrs. Baker, Hioks and oble, and Misses Laura Rhodes, Dora it thane and Katie Johnson.

Through some mistake the names of ary Martin and Lulu Jones were mitted from the programme printed the iNSTI-TOOTER last week. We 1. pardon, ladies, it was not our fault. The dreaded day is at hand. Bring on your boquets.

Are you prepared? Have you yet subscribed for your edCreational journals? Every teacher could take one or more professional apers. If you take but one professional purnal, let that be the Western School NORMAL NOTES We are very much gratified that we Chave had so many visitors during the present Normal. At the Tuesday afternoon session in ersuance of a resolution to that effect liss Kiner appointed a committee on as follows: R. D. Emery, F.

H. Baker, D. Hart. Misses Wilson VanClove. What has become of the Physiology class.

It has at last bean decided to formally niedicate the new school house in this writy to-night. The dedication address will be made by Dr. J. H. Ely.

very numerous manner. Excellont Paks were given by Supt. Simmons, Prof. Baker, Rev. Cooper of Almena, cad others.

One of the most affecting scenes it has yet been our lot to witness was enacted on Thursday afternoon, when, on behalf of the members of the institute just closed, Dr. J. II. Ely presented to Miss Kiner a beautiful casle and autograph album containing the autographs of nearly every member. Miss Kiner W88 very much affected and when she had concluded her reply there WaS scarcely a dry eye in the house.

The citizens of Norton again gave proof of their liberal patronage for the cause of education. The opera house Was filled to overflowing at the entertainment given by the normal last evening. Everyone expressed himself amply repaid for his money. and time. Our Normal "Time is fleeting" said the poet Longfellow in one of the grandest Poems in the English language; and how true it 19! The four weeks of our Normal Institute session already past! It scarcely seems possible that time could fly SO quickly.

"We take no note of time but by its loss," is but too true. Normal has come and passed like a seeming day. It lives in our memories as brigha oasis in the dreary desert of a teachers weary routine. It has passed -passed forever, and we are the better for having been here. Kansas Normals are always full; and Norton county Normals are especially so.

The Institute of last year was highly successfull; it was the best one ever held in the county, up to that time. But the normal just past was the best one ever held in western Kansas. We're proud of our county-prond our Normals--and proud of our teacners, who have so successfully labored to place themselves--and their county with them -where they now are: in the front rank. Why is our Normal a success? Because it is a success! The enrollment is greater than has ever before beon reached in this part ofthe state. Greater interest has been manifested; more teachers are attending, and better work has been done than ever before.

We wish now to thank all those who have 80 kindly assisted us in the publishing of the Tooren by their contributions, their subscription their patronage in the matter of and the liberality in dit clan that has bean manifested by and and patrons.
