Now there is a ring, or clique, of politicians in Holton who try to make it their business to run tho affairs in the county in securing officers, in a sense, if not directly, will do it indirectly, always for their own interests, regardless of the consequences to the county. These politicians, as we will at present call them, have dupes throughout the different parts of tho county, through whom they expect to "work" the rural-ists at their own sweet will at the different voting places of the county. Anyone knows that when a few dead official aspirants, as it were, get together and try a number of the best men of a county to got them to accept and run for such and such an office, Notice to Creditors.

Libbey, tho Brooklyn authoress, is much prostrated by the attacks made by the press on her novel, "Miss Middleton's Lover." One criticism was so savage that it scut her pulse up to 104 in the shade, and she declared that she would sue the writer for libel. Another critic boldly asserts that the author of such a novel should be put in Libbey prison. At Kansas City last Friday an architect by the name of Albert II. Ramsden was hit in the head with a brick, which, up to Tuesday, the perpetrator of tho deed was unknown, but it has since transpired that the' crime was committed by an ex-employe named John II.
