The judge tltu began to answer questions. To tb. question, "How many kinds of cano cm there?" ho said there were over 100 varieties. At the Sterling station those to be used generally are the early amber, early orange and Link's Hybrid. At Ft.

Sorghum was always blamed with fuiinrea. After that I expected find felt In awe of the "fool killer." SUCCESlt FLAW. The next year we had a "battery" built In a cylindrical form with the bottom arranged that it dropped down by a hinge and let the contents ail out ut env-e. Navrj I uon't like to criticise "Uncle Stem," but a a sugar maker, our T'ccle is rut a success. Three years ago $75,000 was fooled away.

We got some sugar but they said it was purely an accident to get sugar out cf sorghum. I think it will be an accident if they ever get any. Tha sugar we got that year cOit ceata per pound. The government paid the $1.00 and we had to pay the. 5 cets which 16ft us in pretty bad That method however, got out y8 per cent of the juice Inutead of 55 per cent as before, but the leaves of the cane bothered us.

To get rid of thb was the next question. The removal of the sheath of the leaf where it joins the stalk was the next part of It. It was declared thst that would be too expensive. A pty down in New Jersey, where the government was running an experimental station, said that it could en'y be removed by hand and that would cost $9.00 per ton of cane. Machinery heavier was devised, by which tha leaves and stalks are cut up together and the pieces of leaves being lighter are blown out by a series of fans.

InadJItion to getting clean stalks and the the leaf fur faed vre. find it a very cheap procesr, AGAIN Krerybody was discouraged with the outlook for sourghum. The pieaseut com-mlislauer of agriculture, a very warm friend of sourghum and a gentleman for whom I have the higest respect, did he could but he believed his subordinates, who I think were not worthy of belief in the matter. We said to the government that if they would let us alone, and permit us to Dsn some of the macninery which we have in our factory Is at'Fort Scott, we would get along all right with some money. I do not know what we would have Cold, we should smile.

Delivered before the Sottth-Wcsfcera Coaveution, Bt Wichita It does not need any comment. The chairman next introduced Parkinson, who stated thut he had not come over here to make a set speech and had none, prepared.

He only intended "to give them a little talk" and began by saying that only a few weeks ago he had attended another convention in this city which had been called for the puipos-e of discussing the opening of Oklahoma. The present convention, however, he considered of far greater importance in as much as it did not contemplate the opening of new homes but the improvement and development of the homes already started: This is one of Uie most important conventions ever held in the stale and Jw hoped all would go home better equipped for battling with the elements. One object of this convention is to talk over and consider sorghum, that plaut which smiles at drought and laughs at hot winds and chinch bugs. If tl.ia can be mnde profitable why not adopt it? There are three things I never failed to raise. I could always raise a nice crop of cockle burrs and they stuck to me like brother.

Sunflowers were another good eiop and I always supposed that some telbiw would find a way to utilize these plants. Then there was sorghum that 1 could always raise, as no other person util it, and I have made myself quite a crank. It has never been known to have teen anything akin to a failure. ,1 am told that sorghum nourishes well in western Rausas.
