Broughton announces himself as a candidate for the office of Register of Deeds, subject the decision of tne Democratic county convention. Several have inquired of us who was elected chairman of the Republican Central Committee, there could not have been one elected, as their was not a qurom of the committee present and they cannot organize by proxy. Gat. Edwards returned from his trip to Anthony, last Friday afternoon, where he has been looking after a location. He contemplates moving to that cjty in the near future. We shall be sorry to loose Mr.

Edwards from amongst us. George Bousman and John Sims took a drive into theounty, last Sunday, to eat melons and peaches. When they returned they were both so full of the delicate fruits they had to be helped out of the buggy. Walker spent Sunday with his family in this city. II. L. Fitch was in the city, yesterday, platting the land of the Stafford Investment Co. that lies just west of the city, on Broadway.

Last Satuaday evening there was very nearly arranged a horse-race between George Fhares, and a mover, who was going through the city, but through some misunderstanding it did not take place. We are glad to see her back again, for she is one of the brightest and most interesting young ladies in the city, to say nothing of her charming and entertaining manners; but few can fill her place ia the social circle, and all will extend to her a warm and hearty welcome. Charlie Vickers returned home last Saturday, from an extended trip through the west, including Denver, Colorado, with the Anthony hose team, of which Charlie is a member, took the first prize at the Denver tournament, and that speaks rolumes for the team, for there were some very fast teams in the contest.

Mr. Editor The Catholics started this week to build a church. Messers Geo. Wetig and Herman Schultz are at work on the foundation; the lumber has been bought, and the work will be Score one for Seward, the first Catholic church building in the county. lames Lawler, station acent of the D-M.

A. tells us that he billed 22 cars of wheat from this place, during the month of August. Not so bad for a starter. The boys that went to Lyons feel jubilant over their success of breaking the record they may well be proud. Tha first time Stafford county ever got anything out side of the county.

J. W. Bose's election is an assured fact. Seward will boast of a nice new school house. We do need a druggist bad.

No mean construction on last sentence, Joe and his Kesub-resolutions were set down on at the convention, on last Saturday. The county commissioners have struck the right lead now, if we did not have the required population, cut the salaries according to law. W. McComb; Cooper township, represented by E. Patterson. Meeting called to order by Frank Cox, the old chairman; S. A.

D. Glasscock, secretary. Upon motion of Capt. Woodford, seconded by Armstrong and Gen. Cooper, Frank Cox waa re-elected chairman for the ensuing year, and S.

A. D. Glasscock was re-elected secretary for the ensuing year, and Capt. Woodford, treasurer for the ensuing year. The committee adjourned to meet in St.
