Thcro is no issue of tiny groat importance at last between tho two loading parties of tho country, oven though there are thousands discussing the iiiostiou of "tariir and free trade." On last Thursday wa concluded to take a trip in tho country and see for oursclf tho conilitioii of crops. The abundant rains have made all crops look beautiful; Tho fresh, green grass all over tho prairie, witli fine, fat cattle nnd horsc9 grazing, apparently as happy as if in the proverbial gitrden of Eden. The perfect roads for which this part of the state is noted; the old familiar cry of the plover; tho fresh, bracing air, all conspire to make us satisfied that our lot has been cast in this pin of our native state. Wo noticed many fine fields of alfalfa and millet, and the corn in every respect was all that the most exacting could wish. True, there were some fields of corn that were not up to the standard, but these fields wore first breaking, and, judging from appearances, were not carefully planted.

Hut wherever corn was planted on ground broken previous to the present year the crops are excellent, llay must necessarily be cheap this year, as wherever there is hay land the yield is abundant. Wo noticed many places on the uplands that will produce a good hay crop. kakt bound tkainh. No. 8.

We hear a number of farmers through the country complaining of the hot winds killing the corn blades. One who has had much experience made an investigation recently and informs us that he found the cause of the white blades to be due to a worm similar to the old fashioned cut-worms, which enter the stalk just below the ear, cutting out the peth and causing tho stalk to die. Wo were particularly attracted by the appearance of the farm of C. L. Dawson, some four miles north-west of the city.

This is certainly a model farm, and bids fair in the near future to be the finest farm in the west. Mr. Dawson has 320 acres of land all under the ditch, which slopes to tho river in such a manner that every acre can bo easily irrigated, bo that if a dry season should como upon us, ho at least is protected. He has boxes placed in the canal so that tho water can be used at any time. Our only criticism in all our travels is that so few acres of ihe rich and productive soil of Ford county that is under the ditch is under cultivation, as it is shown by the Dawson farm that a perfect system of irrigation insures the finest of crops.
