H. Chapman Walter Harvey Chapman was born in Brighton, Iowa, May 6. 1854. On October 21, 1877, he was united in marriage to Mary J. Beard in HumboltNeb.

Mr. Chapman came into this community in 1882, 26 years ago. During ail these years he has been making friends. These friends have been won because of his sterling qualities. His was a strong character, always shedding abroad a helpful influence.

He has been a true husband and an indulgent father. Upon those he loved, those in the home, he lavished his best gifts, a life of service. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 from the Christian church, Rev. Sorey having charge of the service. The Knights Templar and the Modern Woodman of America attended in a body as did also the teachers of the city schools The business houses closed during this hour and practically the entire city paid their last tribute to the honored dead.

The floral tributes were many and beautiful in the extreme. As the procession entered the church the double quartette sang, "Safe In The Arms "of Jesus. Rev. Sorey spoke eloquently and touchingly on the subject, "The Ideal Man." By the request of the family Mrs. L.

J. Charvoz sang, "Some Time We'll Understand." The double quartette sang softly, "Silently Bury the Dead" as the throng of son-owing friends viewed the remains. The pall bearers were all Knights Templar. At the grave the beautifu bur.ial ceremony of the Masons was used. The remains were laid to rest in Maple Grove cemetery.

The casing which was broken is being repaired and the well is being put in shape for drilling. Mr. Kirk is a reader and impersonator of unusual ability. He is highly recommended by the press all over the, couutry. Admission 15 and 25 cents. This entertainment is given to assist the church iu some little financial matter and all friends of the church should gladly patronize it and will get value received for their money.

J. T. Williams is on the sick list. Rev. Reedy is still holding meetings at the rink.

V. T. Harris of die Soldiers' home left this morning for Baxter Springs to visit friends. Mrs. James Corey and daughter left this morning for a visit with friends in Chicago.

The birth date of "John Brown of Kansas" was observed Sunday at Torrington, where he first saw the light. Mr. Henry Heustis is suffering from an attack of appendicits and will be compelled to undergo an operation in a short time. Rev. M.

L. Sorey went to Kansas City last night to be at the bedside of his mother who was operated on several weeks ago and is not so well now as she was some time since. The Cogswell Brothers of Hutchinson came in from McCracken Saturday evening in an auto. They will be here for several days on business. Miss Lucile Beck of Kinsley came in last night to take a position in the Bargain store restaurant.
