She had a gold medal presented to her by the life saving crew of Chicago, for saving the lives of two small children. She was standing on the pier at Chicago waiting for a boat to carry her to the city, when the children fell into the water.

J. The McPherson county, Central Kansas Coal company, held a meeting the Dreesen's office on Tuesday afternoon. They had an exhibition of oval that has teen fo and on the land leased by the company. One large piece found within -five miles of this city and a small piece within five miles of a railroad. The coal is of good quality and burns well, leaying wite ashes; some of it was put in the stove in the office and made a good clear fire.

The company are Batisfied that coal exists in paying quantities. have already found veins from eighteen to thirty inches thick. Just prior to the meeting the books of the company were opened and considable stock subscribed. Some beneficial amendments were made to the rules of the company as to franchises, and decided that wok should con mence at once and a diamond drill or dered. We hope the company will push the enterprise to success, and that the citizens of the county will aid as much as possible by subscribing to the stock of the company so that they can continue their work.
