A letter from Frank Crittenden to his father, dated at Portland, Oregon, states that he arrived there on the 22nd inst. Newton Shirley and John Youngblood were with him. He says that the country is over-done with persons looking for employment and business openings. Judging from the general tenor of his letter he evidently does not think it advisable for a person to go. there in search of work or employment.

We have no objections to any of the above, and believe if the whole ticket is elected the affairs of city will be properly looked after. We shall vote the ticket nominated last Saturday night, having taken part in the convention which placed it in the field, and besides the caucus was called by regularly published otice, was attended by property owners, and due notice was given that a ticket would be nominated at that time, giving all an opportunity to participate if they so wished. We say vote for the ticket nominated on last Saturday night. Last week councilman: L. Ri Hill after taking his wife to the TJaptist fair and supper returned home and quietly packing everything that could be carried away that he owned, took his two children and procuring a wagon went to Syracuse.

Here he boarded an east bound train and shipped for the east, and is supposed to be at the home of his mother. Mrs. Hill on arriving home found it not only deserted tut that her clothing and bedding was also gone. She attempted to hold the store but it appears that Mr. Hill had given a bill of sale on the goods and now they are in the hands of the creditors.

P. S. Fulkerson, Druggists. trouble is supposed to have been the cause of Mr. Hill's sudden departure but who is to blame the Citizen is not prepared to say.

We are for Rochfort Edwards for mayor for the following good reasons: First, we mentioned his- name for the position some two weeks ago; second, we attended and took part in the caucus that nominated him, and would consider ourselves a traitor to go back on the ticket nominated by the convention we attended, and took ah active part in; third, he is a man in every way qualified for the position and has never been connected with any ring or clique, is a property owner and a good citizen generally. We don't mean "that the opposition ticket is composed! of disreputable men, for it is not, but we" think it is the duty of every "one to take a stand that he thinks is right and stand by it. Therefore we are for the ticket nominated last Saturday night. We are in.favor of a plant for Coolidge township if onecan be made to pay expenses here. JBonds for that purpose can be voted by the people of Coolidge and Coolidge township, if the voters can only be assured that the plant will not be afailure, and in order to find out this fact let us go slow and give the matter a thorough investiga-.

tion. It is too late now to erect a mill to be of use this year, therefoejve haVe plenty of time to consider, the--, matter in its different lights. Syracuse has men in the east now looking up this matter, and they report that the Fort Scott plant can be duplicated, for $50,000. The mill has a capacity for "seven hundred acres of; cane, which would give ten acres for seventy farmers or twenty acres for thirty-five. For this township we don't believe the rjcapaeity of that mill would be large enough, for the reason we have so large a country to draw from.

Coolidge is the distributing point for eastern Colorado, and many of the farmers living in the that state would expect to be patrons of the mill, and the plant must be large enough to accommodate them. The farmers want a sugar mill, but they want one that will be a success, therefore let the matter be thoroughly investigated by competent men men whom we can rely upon. Qi FOLEY, Coolidge, Kansas. Ol Mr. Bickel is a good man, honest in his belief, but we do not see how he can consistently, claim he is. a resident of Coolidge when his family have been liv- ing in Denver for hear a year. Mr. Edwards' family live in Coolidge, and the expense of maintaining his" family has been divided among the merchants of this place, and we do not see how the business men of this place, can support a man for mayor who is virtually a nonresident, is not a property owner, and the money spent for keeping his family is given to the merchants of another town in another state.

They are unlike the Eastern vestibule trains in one important particular, and that is that they contain accommodations for all classes of passengers without extra charge, and do not compel passengers to patronize the sleeping cars unless they are so inclined. Additional security is given to the passengers by the "Santa Fe" by having the cars heated by the Houston system of steam heat taken from the locomotive and having them lighted by electricity.

The untimely loss of that elegant upper lip adornment, which the wind blew through so gaily during the past winter, forces the youth to a life of retirement from the giddy whirl of society. Clark, one of the progressive farmers of Hamilton county and who resides some 10 miles south of Coolidge was in the city and called on the Citizen. Mr. Clark is preparing to farm extensively this year. His rye looks well as does the wheat planted last fall.

A few days ago a denizen of Coolidge, whose length of leg, spinal column and neck lifts his cranium, high up toward the azure blue, made a sleighting remark regarding a certain lady, which came to the ears of the husband. The result was that a six-shooter appeared on the troubled scene, and the afoie-alluded-to limber-jointed individual retreated in hurried confusion toward the state line. Those who witnessed the rush for the tangled willows say that he hit the high places like a pile driver, and that the jack rabbits have become so disgusted with their own abilities as runners that they have tied crape to their tails and gone into mourning.
