The -ith of Jul j' approaches apace, and likewise the arrangements of a grand ce ebration and basket picnic at Louisburg. All the essential preparations have been attended to, and indications point to the largest and most harmonious celebration ever held at this place. Our grove is spacious, cool and well arranged. Our people are sociable, liberal and jovial, and all who come to assist xis in the recognition of this day will be heartily welcomed. The best music to be had will be discoursed during the day, and renowned orators will review the past and predict the future.

In behalf of our people, the Watchman extends a cordial invitation to all far and near to come with well-filled baskets, and participate in the enjoyment of celebrating the 4th day of July, A. 1881. At the close of the year's work in this town, I desire to give a short resume of matters educational. First, then, as to the schools. During the year the total number of pupils enrolled has been 210.

Added to this the rag carpet which they made is not all sokl yet but so far has netted $20, which will be used to furnish the pulpit of the Methodist church. They will keep on having festivals and the like and devote the proceeds to improving the cemetery and other matters for the good ot the town.
