About twenty couple enveloped themselves in sheets and pillow slips, and as they glided about the rooni, they presented an appearance that was ghostly in the extreme. Taken all together it was a very pleasant affair. Died: At Osawatomie Miami Co. Kansas, on Sunday March 17th, 1889, John Roberts, aged about 81 years, Mr. Roberts was born in Waterford, Ireland, July 27th, 1808. He emigrated from that country during the year 1835, and settled at Lockport N.

where during most of his active life lie was engaged in farming. For the past few years he has resided at Osawatomie most the ti'ne, with his son Mr. George Roberts. Mr. Roberts was remarkably clear in his memory and intellect up to the time of his death.

He was always pleasant and jovial in his inter-course with his fellow man, and he will be missed by our citizens. He was hurried on Monday of this week Rev. B. L. Kead officiating.

Ex. A man and his son, whose narne we did not learn, were bitten by mad-dog near Girard, Kansas, and came here Saturday to receive treatment from the Durbin madstone. Street srossings were provided for by the city council at their last meeting as follows: One west of John Snyder's property, one cross Main street at the John Brown monument, Thoy also ordered the building of a sidewalk on wast and south side of the monument. The new town of Parker, in Liberty township, is to have a paper. J. G. Cash, of the Kincaid Dispatch, made the citizens of that place a proposition which was accepted.

The citizens hav guaranteed an advertising patronage of 50 per month. Owing to the fact that no hall can be pr jcured, the drama which our young folks have been preparing will have to be given up. It does seem strange that some man or men will stir themselves and erect an opera hause in this thriving city. We would call atte ntion to the notice of a Teacher's meeting to be held at Osawatomie, Maich 30th. Prof.

Zercher is actively and successfully engaged in awakening an interest in the school affairs of the county. We hope the meeting here will be well attended. Last Friday afternoon while the famity occupying the Inman property, about4 miles southeast of town, were at Paola, their house caught fire in some way, and when the family returned at night the house was burned to the ground. Nothing was saved but a sewing machine. Dikd: At Osawatomie, Kansas, on March 16th, Jolm Hays, aged about 33 years, Mr.

Hays has been a sufferer for some time past with that dreadful disease, consumption, which finally terminated his life. He leaves one child. Chestnut's store presents a decidedly new appearance after having passed through the hand of the car penter, painter and paper hanger. They understand how to keep up appearancesneatness being ono of the first laws of nature. Everything will soon be as noat as a pin.

The "write up" of Parker in the Paola Times, represents that Chestnut has sold his interest in Osawatomie and lias removed to Parker.
