Only the rich can afford these newfasnions, yet the Oolie, (the laborer) admires them immensely, and as soon as he can save sufficient clackers (pennies) he will purchase a cap, probably a bright green one, as he likes gaudy colors, or by a pair of rough leather shoes in lieu to ths old wooden sandles. The majority of Chinese people are laborers, and for a day's labor each person receives from 20 to 5O cents which would amount to about half that snra in U. S. currency. Being small of stature, and underfed at all times, their worth as a laborer is small, and one white man of average strength and skill can easily preform the work of 6 Coolies.

Labor, to the Chinaman, is a natural order of existance, and he settles placidly to the task; little caring whether the work consumes a day or a year. He stands more abuse that a Miss ouri mule; he works all day in the hot sun, sleeps in the rain and endures wintry blasts ho the north without a murmer. He seems devoid of feeling. letters will run each week in the Journal and we assure our readers they will contain facts of interest. be pleased to subscribe price 50 cts.

The Ladies Aid Society deserves special mention as they pledged one thousand dollars, and also the Kings Daughters who pledged three hundred. Several individuals who have already given large sums to the extent of five hundred dollars, gave an additional two hundred.

Arrangements have been made whereby the Board of Church Extension will now loan the church here five thousand dollars, and work on the new church will commence at once with the view of completion by July 1st. Judge Douner and Court Stenographer Clayton stopped off a few minutes Monday morning t-nroute to Santa Fe to hold court. Walter Wilson, of north Finney was a visitor in town Saturday. Permit me first to picture the chinaman of today.
