Fire Department Pays Tribute To Chief. As a token of appreciation of the untiring efforts of Chief Craig during the many years of his active service in the Garden City Fire Department, the organization presented him with a seventeen jewell Hampton Gold watch. The presentation speech was made by Mayor Miller, who was the only outsider permitted to contribute to the present. The Mayor spoke for thirty minutes during which time he outlined the many good and noble acts preformed by the Chief during years of service and in the name of the department and the city he thanked the Chief and expressed regret at his leaving. After the presentation speech the electioi of Geo.

Assistant District Attorney Wilkerson in his opening statements in the Standard Oil case today says that he would accept the issue of the defense that the tariff displayed by the railroads at Whiting, Indiana and Chappelle, 111., as the laws require to show that the shippers accepted rebates willfully and conscientiously. The defense contented that the Standards agent never saw the tariffs and therefore had no means of knowing that the rates had been reduced.

Excited crowds gathered outside of the Taurida Palace today for the opening of the Douma andengaged in a wild demonstration during which many were trampled upon by the cavalry horse. The public is baired from the palace. The Douma was formerly opened at noo.i today. Premier Stolypin and other members of the cabinet were present. Antonius delivered a speech saying that the new assembly would act for the good of the country.

has entered a plea of guilty in behalf of their clients before the Federal court on a charge of sending obscene matter through the mails. The plea was entered in behalf of James Gordon Bennett, owner and William Gill, an advertising manager. The matter on which the charge was made was the so called "Red light" personal column. The sentence has been deferred. The maxium fine under this indicement is $40,000.

Band Concert. The band boys are preparing to give a concert on April ninth, and are practicing ever night. Many new and clasic selections including solos are being rehearsed and the concert promises to be the event of the seasoi. Assessors Meet. The assessors of Finney County met at the conrt house yesterday and decided on a basis to assess personal property. The assessors will make an explosion. New York Central Flyer Wrecked New York, Mar. 5. The New York Central flyer number six jumped the track this morning on account of a bad rail at Tivoli. The company state that three employees were injured, rhe sleepers left the track. Ten of the passengers were seriously injured and one fatally.
