OCTOBER 22. 1890. EXGHANQE QpOGIRY. The Republican nominee for Representative, Mr. Hooper, is making a vigorous canvass and is said to be gaining ground every day.

Those who attend the meetings and hear him are at once convinced that he is the proper man to represent this county in the legislature. His opponent is not making any canvass whatever and expects to be elected by the secret machine's vote. True they are strong, but we are of the opinion that unless they exhibit some ability they will fail on election day. Fresh by the can or by the dish, at Olney's. Fresh stock of books, tablets, box paper, stationery and all kinds of school supplies just received at C.

G. Mickel's Book store. The managers of the Observer are still taking the farmers' dollars for subscription to that paper. As they only expect to issue twice more we should think they would be ashamed. J.

W. Moore, the grocer, is selling his goods at cost. He wants to close out his stock in the next thirty days and prices will be made on all goods. Parties wishing bargains should call on him. We are Headquarters for GROCERIES and QUEENSWARE.

Judge Smith is at home. Fresh home made taffy at Olney's. Joseph McNulty is in Smith county. New goods and lower prices at Griffin's. One week from next Tuesday is election day.

George being a favorite among the old soldiers and a general good, clever and accommodating fellow is making many votes for himself and the entire ticket. ACADEMY NOTES. Arthur Lampkin is again enrolled as a student. Miss Pope is teaching Mr. Mather's classes in his absence. Dr.

Callender and Hon. I. H. Kerr were welcomed visitors last Friday. Prof.

Mather is attending the Congregational Association at Hiawatha. Fred Bodecker is visiting with his parents who will soon leave for Missouri. Hon. A. L. Patchin, of Oberlin, formerly of this county, has received the nomination on the republican ticket for representative of Decatur Rollin E. Sawyer.

Higgina Clerk P. A. Chipman The Republican nominee for County Attorney, Mr. Ham, is one of the best officers in the state. He is firm on all questions of importance to the people and especially the prohibition question.

During his term of office he has at all times guarded the county "crib" with discretion and deserves the support of every voter in Rooks county. His opponent is a nice young man with but little experience in his profession and is likely to get but few votes. Treasurer. J. B.
