Between meals I give them whole maize, and mangold wurzel or swedes cut small, a little coal and soil occasionally, and allow them plenty of clean Avater.

When pigs are put up for fattening, I find nothing better to fed them with than barley and maize meal, mixed together into slops, water always kept by them, and a little mangold cut for them occasionally. It is very beneficial to wash and brush as often as convenient. This is quickly done by experienced hands, and will amply repay for the trouble. I am certain that the 'cottagers would find their pigs fatten a good deal faster if they would wash and brush them, and feed vi iiiuTj- uuu uran eiioemg. What effect either of these plans may-have in protecting the wheat from the severity of winter, we- do rt know. One or all of them might be tried on small lots of ground, and their comparative merits fee tested at a trifling expense. As the country becomes divested of the ftrest trees the wheat fields are exposed to increasingly severe trials from wind and frost. Less snow falls now than formerly, and what does come is borne from the wheat fields by the winter blasts which career over them since divested of the-protection of surrounding forests.

Wholesale Dry Goods, oW thia. There are those who have tried this for years, and caiv not be persuaded to keep their potatoes in any other way. Dig and expose to the air till dry; then put up as directed, taking the barrels to the field. Store in the cellar, any part most convenient. The advantage is that the air is not exposed, as with open bins, which often vitiate it, and always leave a potato odor.

You have nothing of this. Another advantage you can put whero most convenient and move at pleasure, with little difficulty, aud you may place tier upon tier of barrels till up to the floor. When it is wished to use any, a barrel is opened and used, and so on with the rest, leaving no dirt, the ground remaining in the barrel. Or, if it is wished to sell, they are already put up. Any barrel will do, so that it is strong enough a salt barrel as good as any.
