a TEASKSGIVIUG TO THE PEOPLE OF KANSAS. EXTRA THURSDAY MORNING, NOV. 8 1860. Th.3 County Election. As will be seen by the published table the largest vote ever polled by Doniphan county vas given on Tuesday last.

While the Republicans are jubilant they are none the less surprised at the result. We are not yet prepared to say that the Republicans practiced down right fraud in securing their unprecedented large vote, but it is evident that bribery or undue influence was used by them. Men who were clamorous in their hurrahs for the Democratic ticket up to the day of election walked to the polls and voted a straight Republican ticket; and others who were never before seen by those who have livied in the presinct in which they voted, came up end swore in a Republican vole. We shall have more to say about this matter next week. The vote is not official, but it is mainly correct, and as will be seen the Democrats have elected but one of In the beginning we were promised that "while the earth seed time and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall jiot cease." This promise to man's hope and industry was made by Iliin, who is the fountain of Truth, who also said "Go forth and replenish th earth," and who said to the tempest "be still." But into God's great purposes man cannot pry His ends are worked out in His own good time.

He pimisheth and chastiseth for our good, giveth and vvithholdeth'that His nariivi may reetive the higher glory among His creatures. The conuke heart are chastened and the proud are humbled. Let man, therefore, not repine at nhat, to him, is a' but rather Jet him thank God, with humble. obedience, putting trust in His great promises fuliiSled unto to many gent-rations rather lew in grateful adoration to Him by whose power he breathes and moves, than iguorant-ly curse ihe hand which exiendeth bless-' irjcrs and withholdeth no needed cood. Therefore.

SAMUEL MEDARY, Governor of the Territory of Kansas, do, in accordar.ee with custom a custom sanctioned bv a Christian people appoint and set apart THURSDAY, the 29th of November, 18(50, as a day of THANKSGIVING and PRAISE for the many mercies vouchsafed us. Though drouth has come upon us and cur people are sorely tried in this their hour of destitution though the granenes are empty and food is given out with a sparing band, yet it is a cause for rejoicing, for thanksgiving and praise, that unusual health pre-vades our Territory that plenty is within reach that the means of communication are rapid that the hearts of a christian people quick in acts of mercy, so that our wants are but to be made known to be supplied; and, more than all, that we have an opportunity of doing good works for one another that our hearts may have a closer communion, aud society be mculd-ed together with 'Faith, Hope and Char- ily" Given under the Seal of the Territory, at the City of Lecotnpton, this GOih day of October, A. Six Democrats elected to Congress in New York City. GEORGE KNAPP CO. The entire Democratic ticket it county is elected by 200 majority, a large Democratic gain. A serious affray occurred at Iowa Point oa the day of election, in which several persons were seriously injured, but none fatally. A quarSesome character by the rame of Hedrick got into a dispute with Mr.

Rufus Edwards, and the former was badly frightened but in no way injured. A few hours afterwards the desperado seeing Mr. Edwards conversing with another person, came up behind and dealt him a severe blow on the head with a large bar of iron. The crowd thinking that Mr. wards had, in this cowardly manner, been killed, set upon Hedrick and would, undoubtedly, have beaten him to death had it not been for the timely interference of Messrs.

Martin, Bleckley, and others. the fracus was progressing, aa Irishman, a friend of Hedrick, struck a person with a club and then started to run. Another person drew a revolver and Commenced shooting at the Irishman, but fortunately none of the shots took effect. Leavenworth county is reported to have gone largely Democratic. Fire in St.

A. Riddle and the two stores adjoining were the only houses saved, and the goods of these were removed of course involving great damage. We have not at this writing the name's of the losers nor of the owners of the buildings destroyed. The loss wiil be very considerable. At one time there was great danger that the fire would spread to the east of the street and turn up much of the town.

St. Joseph Gazette, Nov. 2. The day subsequent to the payment of the annuities of the Fottowattamie tribe of Indians, a number of them got into a drunken quarrel and three of their were killed..
