church was a grand success, and one that will long be remembered. The large church was densely packed and many had to go away for want of room, and all seemed to be satisfied and enjoyed the effort made by the school to entertain them. There was hut one to graduate, Miss Jennie lola McPherson, who acquitted herself with honor, and was presented with diploma by the president of the school board, Mr. Jay F. Close.

After the graduating exercises came the eon-test in declamations between the following students: Nora Barr, Evangel Sprague, Cora Johnson, Adela Humphrey, Will McCall, Tom Charles, Allie Studley, Albert Northorp, Myrtle Vance, Nellie Taylor, Stella Pilkenton, Anna Jehlik, Anna Wade and Ada Clark. Allie Studley was awarded the first prize and Tom Charles the second. While there is a great variety of opinions as to who should have had the prizes, the faces are that they were all so good and so evenly matched that it was hard to decide which one was the best, and we be fcP iSTELlElT PfJl. Decoration day has come and gone, and we are glad to say it was well observed in Belleville. There was a large crowd came to pay their respects to the memory of the brave men who faced 3eath Jor their country's sake.

The exercises at the opera house were good '3nd the hall was crowded to suffocation. The grand army glee club first sang a a song, after which the Rev. L. M. Newell offered up prayer, the glee club followed, alter which E.

W. Wagoner delivered an oration. Then came the children's military parade, followed by an address by Jay F. Close, and a recitation by Mr, M. West, and then the exercises closed by a song by the glee 'club.

After the exercises was over, a larg'e'Dumber notwithstanding the threatening s'orm, formed in procession and went to the cemetery when the graves ot the soldiers were decorated with flowers. Many of the other graves had been beautifully decorated with flowers 'in the forenoon, and when it was all through, the cemetery resembled a bed of roses. The exercises waa a success and, notwithstanding the scarcity of flowers there was enough found to do justice to the occassion. Not only is decoratiou of the graves of tha soldiers a noble act but memorial days relreshes the mind of all the departed and is a good time to show your retnomberance of them by decorating their graves as well. Saved from Death ty Onions.

There has no doubt been more lives of children saved from death in croup or whooping cough by the use of onoins than any other knowu remedy, our mothers used to make poultices ot them or a syrup, which was always effectual in breaking up a cough or cold. "By what logic is a not that is a siU ver certificate at the issuing window of the treasury treated as a gold certificate at the next window? If silver is good enough to issue these certificates on, how and why does it, immediately after the issuauce, cease to be good enough to take them up in? How long can any sensible person think the people will stand it if every ounce of silver deposited is presumed in the treasury policy to create a debt againft the people which they must meet by borrowing gold and paying interest on it? It may be possible for some to conceive a more ab-sured or a more ruinous policy than this but we are free to confess that we cannot. It seems to us that if it is followed out to its logical conclusion it means ruin. St. Louis Republic.
