Burris, is building a nice residence on Prospect Hill. Mr. W. Alison is building himself a new house on his lots at the north end of Depot street. The noted actor, John Dillon, will appear as1 the lawyer in State's Attorney at Williams' Hall to-night.

Hunters can now legally kill quails, though but very few of them should take advantage of the privilege. A new organ has been bought by the teachers and scholars of the public school for use in the schoolroom'. It will take many years to overdo one paying branch oi business that is, a large orchard of winter apples. An awning Is being erected in front of Dr. Freeman's new buildings on the corner of Fourth and Depot streets.

Miss Edith Biles gave a pleasant party to a number of the young folks on Wednesday evening. All report a good time. Don't fail to read the new advertisements on our first page A. H. Turner, C.

Louie Lord's Dramatic Company failed to make its appearance last Monday night, as was advertised, on account of some ot the performers being sick. Simmons and family returned last Thursday from a very pleasant visit among old acquaintances' in Jersey IlK Mr. 8. Saunders, one of the old reliable Republicans, made us a pleasant call, and leaving with us a dollar to keep ahead on subscription. Miss Ada Owen, who has been residing at Mr. L.

II. Johnson's, for the past two years, returned on Monday to her home in Tennessee, Ills. JessePayne and family went to California last week, expecting to locate in Pomona, where Mr. Delirunner, formerly of this place, now livesi Mr. Stofer, senior partner of the Dry Goods firm of Stofer Isett, has gone eastward to purchase another invoice oi winter goods.

They have been afforded a very good trade in the few weeks time they have been doing business here, aud will next week move into the new room on the corner, and open out a larger stock of go)ds than ever. A special will be down to-day, with several officers of the Santa Fe road, and the Southern road to view the progress of the new branch.

The large tubing for the permanent bridge, over the Neosho river, is received, and will be put in placed at once, by Mr. Wagner, who lias charge of the bridge work. Active work on track laying will be resumed to-day, and Col. Seldon, the contractor, thinks lie will be able to build one mile a dy now. The rainy weather has been quite a hindrance.

Not much tracklaying on the new road, has been done the past week, the force being employed in surfacing. A large amount of iron and material is accumulating, and the posts and wire are here for the telegraph line. The platform at the depot of the Southern, railroad has been lengthened sixty feet, a platform built along the east side of the depot, and the chimney rebuilt. sidewalk is being laid to Fourth street, and some changes will bo made in the office arrangement in the depot. Ladies approve of your smoking "Little Joker." A letter from Erie is unavoidably laid over until next week.
