We call the attention of parties look ing for homes in this part of Kansas, to the column advertisement of Morri son's Melvern' Land Agency, on our fourth page. They left for Ottawa about 7 p. in. Mr aud Mrs Detwiler, Mrs James Linzey, and Master Sammy and Miss Cora Detwiler, all of Ottawa, were in the Burg Sunday visiting with Mr and Mrs Sellers. Mr Linzey is superintending the building of two hundred cars in Trre Haute, Iud, and Mr Detwiler is acting in his place in the machine shops. Russell, Glasgow, and several others from Angolia, were in tho Burg last Thursday" with Hutchinson the Great Kansas Land Agent of Kansas City, Mo.

Mr informed us that he had made sales of land to the party amounting in the aggregate to 50,000. The land sold was in the vicinity of Williamsburg. Adda Olson gave a tea party to her young lady friends on Friday evening last. There were present, the Misses Annie Kustcr, Minnie Dyer, Edmonia Dyer, Annie Miller, Mattie Marston, Aggie Barnott, Myra Ransom, Cora and Lizzie McFedder, of the Burg, and Miss Minnie Vollrath, of Ottawa. They were well entertained and had a pleasant time.

John Boston, our well-known black smith, met with quite a severs acci dent on Thursday last. He was busy straightening a sickle knife, when it flew off. tho anvil, struck him on the side of tho head, and fell across his loft arm, cutting a severe gash thereon. Dr Rogers was sent for, who succcoded, in a few minutes, in stopping the flow of blood, bandaged the arm up, and John was already for business again Are you going to build? It is, in itself, a whole library of the languago. KALliOCII Last Friday night, in San Francisco, Rev I Kalloch, (formerly of Ottawa,) the Workingmen's candid date tor Mayor, was shot twice bv Charles De Young, one of the publish ers ot the ban lrancisco Daily Chronicle. The circumstances leading to the shooting are as follows: "After Kalloch was nominated by the work-ingmen' of tho city as their candidate for mayor, De Young in a speech at the State Convention of Hon Bilks announced that he would compel Kal-loeh's withdrawal from the subsequently he notified Kalloch that unless ho withdrew he would rake up bis record in the columns of the Chronicle. Kalloch sent back word for him to go ahead, that he could tell worse things about the De Youngs than thev could could bring against him. Wednesday last the Chronicle came out with a long article reviewing Kal-loch's career in Boston and Kansas, I dwolling particularly upon his reported amours also ventilating bis political and business record. On Thursday and Friday it contained similar and more elaborate articles and dragged in Kalloch's fatheV, now dead, recounting sundry immortalities on his part.

Kalloch had advertised a mass meeting at the Metropolitan Temple, last night, at wiii'ca it was given out that he would read a copy of an article published five years ago by FNaphtaly, in a little paper called the Sun. This article was an attackUpon tho personal and family record of the De Youngs of the most pronounced character, and led to an attempt on their part to kill iiiipumiy, wnicn ianea. xne De Youngs sent Kalloch word that if he read that article they would kill him on sight. Last night an immensa audience gathered at the Metropolitan Temple, and the street outside was packed with a crowd numbering thousands. Kal loch addressed the in-door meeting, scoring the Do Youi.gs mercilessly ami reflecting on their personal record and family anticcdents in tho most direct manner.

Estabrook and wife went to Ottawa this morning. From there, II goes to Kansas City on business, and returns Saturday. A party of six couple, from the Burg, went "over to Campbell's last evening. They report having a good time, and were well taken Scare of by tho boys. The best of music was furnished.

A Barker, the leading photographer of Ottawa, whose card ap pears at the top of this column, will visit the Burg soon, for the purpose of taking large views of buildings, groups, etc. His charges are very reasonable fact, less than ever before known. Wait for him if you want something nice. New York, Aug. 26.

The National Greenback Labor pirty met to-night and adopted resolutions congratulating the workingmen of California on(their victory and denouncing Do Young as an assassin in the interest of thieving capitalists and rings, and approving of the San Francisco workingmen's reso lutions to administer to him speedy justice. Qaarter-Ceutnry Celebration. Very complete arrangements are be- in2 made for tho celebration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the settle ment of Kansas. The meeting for this object will be held at Bismarck Grove; Lawrence, on Monday and Tuesday, the 15th and 16th of Septemoer. A programme of exercises has been pre pared suited to tho celebration of so marked an event as tho closing of the first quarter century of the peopling of a State.

I he gathering will no doubt bo one of the largest ever held the State. The people, of all classes, will be present, aud among thera those acting in public capacities at the present and in toimer times, including Gover nors and State officers, Senators and Members of Congress, Judges, Mem bers of the Legislature and other prominent -both in civil and military af fairs, during tho eventful twenty-fie years of our history. Many of these, residing in all parts of the State, have signified their intention to be present, and take part the exercises, lie- sides these a number of persons from abroad, who were active ia' the promo tion of the early settlement of the State, or who took part in those pub lic attairs in which the State and the whole country were alike involved at that period have promised to bo pres ent and deliver addresses. Among these are Ilev Edward Hale, of Boston; Hon Eli Thayer, of Worcester, Mass-; Col John Forney, of Penn sylvania; Hon George Ju'iau, of Indiana; and Ex-bcnator limotby Howe, of Wisconsin. Cheap rates will prevail on all rail roads centering at Lawrence.

Ample arrangemenfs will be mado for the ac commodation, at. (he grove or in Law rence, ot ail who attend. A large number of tents will be on the ground tor tne use or sucii as remain dunne the meeting and desire to occupy them, making the occasion a grand, quarter-century picnic, camping as in the olden times. John Donley, of Lawrence, can be found at the residence of Tom Collins, in Emerald, for a few days. Mrs Tom Collins, of Emerald, who has been visiting at Lawrence for some time, returned home Tuesday.

Miss Linnie Vollratn, of Ottawa, who has been visiting friends in the Burg, returned home on Monday. A couplo of young ladies expected their ''fellers" up by rail oounting ties from Ottawa, last Sunday, but they got left. Givens and Will Lamb were in the Burg, Sunday. They came up to 'tend meotin'. and were kindly cared for at the Franklin House.
