Cooper's old stand. --J. W. Blaylock, of Bushton, has been in town during the past week. -Some good bargains in Farm and City property.

Markham is home from I his business trip through the northeast states for a short vacation. --The young people danced the old year out and the new year in at the D. M. Bell Building, and had oceans of fun. -Henry Scott, Register of the U.S.

Land Office at Larned. has been in town this week visiting among his old friends. -Smoked glass was the most plentiful article in the city Tuesday afternoon. Everybody got a good sight of the eclipse. -The bill collectors were unusually thick with the 1st of the year.

Our collections towards that $25.000 all went the wrong way. -Goods nearly given away at Thomson's. -The Missionary Society of the Presbyterian church, began the New Year well, by holding their usual meeting last Tuesday: -Some elegant City property MePherson City to trade for Rice, MePherson, Reno or Sumner county farm lands. Judge Clark was on hand Wednesday and opened Court but the time so far has been occupied in hearing motions and making some continuances by consent.

The Grand Jury was instruoted in its duties and set to grinding. The Myers and West case was continued fore further orders of the Court on account of sickness of defendant Myers. deserve the hearty thanks of all frequenters of the court room if the weather was not so springlike, for putting up some stoves that will keep the room warm. -Farmers having lost their crops Thomson proposes to keep even with them and sell without profit. --A.

Swisher and J. J. Robinson have made some kind of a trade by which Mr. Robinson has moved onto the Swisher farm, and will work it the coming season, and Mr. Swisher occupies the Robinson house in Lyons.

Hettie Thompson came out from Louisville, Kentucky, to make a short holiday visit to her sister Mrs E. K.

Miller. The many friends she made during a former, more extended visit rejoice with her relatives to see her here again. -There has never been such slaughter of prices as Thomson is making. --Our community was treated to quite an unpleasant sensation day morning when it became known that the dissolution of the firm of Godfrey, Heryer Slattery bad resulted in a law suit with Godfrey plaintiff, and Heryer Slattery as as defendants. -Thomson has several car loads of goods that he is nearly giving away.

-Some Christmas presents came ahead of time and some were slightly delayed. The young son, billed as a gift to Mr and Mrs Charlie Warden, arrived on Sunday morning last, and found just a8 warm a welcome as though it were Christmas day. Congratulations. -A. S.

Thomson has the old store back and wants to see you. --An accident occurred at Peter Ellis' on Tuesday, which might easily have been much more serious than it proved to be. Mr. E. drove into town to take his sister-in-law, Mrs.

Ed. French, and her little ones out to a New Year's dinner. As they neared home the old family horse frightened at a large snow ball which had been rolled up, and became unmanageable. Mrs. French threw which out her broke babe its fall, among and some escaped weeds unburt.

She then jumped and escaped with only a slight injury. Mr. Ellis was thrown out and his spine injured. Some men passing who saw the accident carried him into the house and sent for the doctor, but before the latter arrived he had regained consciousness and proved to but hurt. Little Jim was not hurt.

Everybody was too thankful for the escape from serious injury to care that the dinner burned in the melee. A GALAXY OF BARGAINS. Now goes for another heroic effort to unload winter goods in their season. We still have an immense stock of Dress Goods, Cloaks, Flannels, Shoes, Boots, Clothing, Underwear, and Notions. If this is a question of the survival of the fittest these goods M-U-S-T be sold.

To this end we shall establish in both the Dry Goods. Clothing and Grocery departments a WEEKLY SLAUGHTER BARGAIN COUNTER. These three Counters will be piled full each Friday morning with such goods as we propose to sacrifice that; week. Such as are left at the end of the week, will be removed, and a new set of bargains placed in their stead. If you have a morbid desire to see the blood flow from these sacrificial counters, come and witness the wholesale slaughter of Cloaks, Dress Goods, Overcoats, Clothing, Boots.

Soaps, Can Goods, and much other that pertains to the inner and outer man. The prices put upon these Bargain Counters will be such as have never before been made in this region. We particularly expect to attract the attention of those who live near, and in neighboring towns, as well as those at home. Goods that are not on these counters will be sold for greater discounts even than we have been giving, and there is not one article in these three stores but that will be within the reach of any one requiring it. We are receiving a lot of pure candies, bought at a bargain for Holiday festivals. Try them. Once again visit these bargain counters and get through the winter with comfort and economy. Congratulations, Will. Died. December 28th, 1888, Mr. Thomas Friday morning, McMahan, aged 69 years and 4 months. The cause of his death was attributed to asthma, which he has been afflicted with for the past 30 years.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. T. C. Butts at the residence, 8 miles southwest of Lyous, last Sunday at 11 o'clock a. m.
