All of. these transactions, involving the business interests of the county, are satisfactory to the peoplo generally. The sad news was received Monday morning that J. S. Williams died at his home, three milos southeast of Chanute, Sunday, of pneumonia, lie had been ill about two weeks.

The deceased lived near Toronto about live years and moved to Chanute only a short time ago. Ho married Miss Mollie Cornett of this place Dec. 19, 1895, and to them was born one child. Mr. Williams was 34 years old, and his life was full of promise when "the dread summons came.

Beasley was kicked by a horse the last day of '97, which he deemed to be nothing serious at the time but in a couple of days was compelled to take his bed, which place he still remains. Dr. Kellen berger has been in attendance and has hopes of a rapid recovery.
