L. NOBLE. Tlie strike at the Leavenworth coal mines has resulted in the shutting down of the mines for good. The proprietors of the mines say that they could not pay more than four cents a bushel for mining coal, and the miners said they would not work for less than five cents per bushel. No compromise could be effected, and the owners of the mines shut down permanently.

The report sets forth that these territories have a population, resource and area which entitles them to admission to the Union, and that it should be the policy of congress to admit territories, whenever the conditions are realized. It is not certain, however, that the bill will go through congress, as the Republican members seem bent on opposing nearly eyery bill which orginates on the Democratic side of the house. H. Berkev, Geo. D. Bellamy. Louis In the eleventh Michigan congressional district, a vacancy occurred, and a special election was recently held thern.

It will be remembered that this is Jay Hubbell's district, and has held the banner for rolling up the largest Republican mojority of any district in the state, giving 8,000 in 1884 The campaign was made squarely on President Cleveland's tariff reform message, and the majority of tbe Republican candidate was reduced to a bare 500 votes. It looks very much as though, Michigan was going to be Democratic next fall, The Republican plan is to wall in the home market with prohibitive duties, the result of which would be restored production in every department of industry, the enforced idleness of produ-tive energies, and the wholesale robbery by the manufacturing barons of Grisier, Fredrick Schultz, of Prattburg CGJ XLeXr tnSPDH A. 10WA-R ft LESSEE Stailord county Kansas. 8 45 am 8 52 9 02 9 27 44 9 39 9 52 also: Junes mil Jno. aatea Oct.
