Reed, oue of Kingman's leading business men, stopped at the Hotel Pe Eastman, Wednesday night and attended the Ice Cream Sociable and Ball at Wcllsford Opera Hall. A- 0. Morris, of the Kiowa County Bank, of this place, has just received his commission as notary public for this county and is prepared to do all work in thr.t lino at reasonable prices. We had the pleasure of making the acquaintance of the jolly editor of the Signal while in Grceushiirg last Monday. Ho is making the Signal one of the best papers of the south west.

For some unaccountable reason the notice of the Kiowa County Normal Institute, that meets Monday morning, August 2d, did not reach us until it was too late for this issue of the paper. E. A. Caw, of Kingman, one of the members of the Wcllsford town company, has been in our young city during the past week, returning home Thursday. He has great faith in Wells-ford.

The new hotel at Cullison will give a Grand Opening Ball on next Wednesday evening, August 5th, and extend a cordial invitation to the people of this place and vicinity to attend. Let there be a food turn out from Wcllsford. Pure bred Registered Short Horn Cattle of both sexes, and all ages, bred right here in the county, and, therefore, thoroughly acclimated, can bo bought cheaper at Soldier Creek Park than they can anywhere in the eastern stales. bOwl Smith Brothers oiler as a prize, one year! subscription to this paper to each of two persons who will bring in the watennellou and the Iatgest pumpkin, and fifty cents for (lie largest potato, and fifty cents for the tallest stalk of corn brought to their oliic." this fall. Taneyhill. who lives five miles north of Welh-ford, had the earliest vegitaides of any farmer in this section of the county, and brought to town on the 3rd of July a cabbage well matured, and a ripe walermellon weighing lt. i Verily the productions of Kansas soil wonderful. Kingman was again visiled with a flood on Friday night, of last week, which carried away both bridges across the Ninnescuh river and otherwise do ing a large amount of damage, however there were no lives lost or buildings washed away so far as we are able to learn.

Wcllsford and surroundings has been favored with two of the heaviest rains of the season, aside from several small showers, during the past ten days, which insures to Kiowa county the largest crop of corn ever grown within its borders as well as all the late grass that will be needed for pasturing or hay. Reports from many portions of the stale, south east and east of us, say the rain was a general one. It did not come a minute too soon, as all of the sout'i-central and south-eastern counties were suffering very much from the drouth, but here we have been blessed with a great abundance of rain for several weeks. Col. Wcllsford has taken possession of the Hotel DcKastnian and is making some valuable improvements in the arrangements of the building, which wlen completed will place us among the foremost towns of the west for hotel I'Ci'ommodalions.

The Colonel makes a first class landlord and is having a rushing The Soldier Creek Park people have sol 1 all. their Short Ifom bulls, enough for service, that were recently advertised in this paper, bui they have a fine lqt of youngsters coming on that will be old enough for service next spring: also a fine lot of cows and heifers of idi ages which they will sell reas-anable This stock is all recorded in the Short Horn Herd Book. aGw4 The Ice Cream Festival and Ball, nt the Opera House Wednesday evening, was a grand success, the hall being crowded to its utmost extent with jolly a crowd us one generally meets with; there being persons here from ail over this portion of country, and everybody seemed to be in posession of solid enjoyment. The object was a worthy one and deserved nil the patronage it received. The net proceeds amounting to about forty dollars.

Dr. Wm. Tidball sold his entire stock of drugs, medicines and notions this week to Mr. J. Y.
