The will of Eliza' Ann DeMoss was filed for prolate May 24th. The following marriage licenses were granted during the past week: L. L. Carr of Lewis, 23, and Iva E. Wilcox of Kinsley, 21; Elmer Nichols of Centerview, 25, and Clara May McGill of Lewis, 19.

The new law governing the issuing and recording of marriage licenses became effective with the publication 'of the 1917 Ses sion Laws, Saturday, May 26th. Heretofore the. licenses yere, returnable direct' to the department of vital statistics at Tope- ka. Hereafter the license will -be returned by the minister to the office of the probate judge who issued it. The probate judge will record it on the books in his office and forward it at the end of the month to'the registrar of vital statistics' at Topeka, in whose office it will be permanently on file.

Attorney General S. M. Brew ster has rendered an opinion tht the law which raises the major ity age of women from 18 to 21 and which also btcsma-. effective May 26th, applies only to the age at which a woman may come in to possession oi miiemed property. Women over the age of 18 may now as before marry without their parents' The following deeds have been' recorded during the week: May 28th, Lee Monroe to Dwight E.

Lloyd L. Carr occur red at the" home of the bride mother, Mrs. A. Wilcox, in Kinsley on -Friday evening, May 25tb, at 9 o'clock. The ceremony was penormed by Rev.

L. F. Abernethy in the 'presence of about thirty relatives and friends. The bride and groom returned to Lewis Friday night and are at home to their many friends in the J. W.

C. Lesley H. C. Lesley, a pioneer resident of this county, died very suddenly Sunday evening, May 27th, at the home of his son, J. H.

Lesley, east of town. Henry Clay Lesley was born at Danville, 111., February 24, 1842. He was married on October 15, .1874, to Mar.tha Hu'ckstep. To thi3 union eight children were born. Those surviving are Mrs.

Edna Jewell ef Carmen, Mrs. Fern Coats of Greensburg, Kansas; James H. Lesley ofJLew-is, Kansas; Bennett Lesley of the 11th Regiment Canadian Volunteers; Gertrude Walker of Lewis, Kansas; and Edward S. Lesley of Oakland. Calif.

The wife and mother died April 5th, Mr. Lesley came to Kansas in April 1879, and( has made his home here, since. At his former home in Illinois he was a druggist and practicing physician but had not engaged in his profession for many years, The funeral service was held from the Methodist church in Lewis Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. L. F.

Abernethy. The body was laid to rest in Wayne Lewis, Kansas, Notice of Registration To all citizens of the City of Lewis, Wayne Township.
