Wheat Test High in Southwestern Kan- sas and Southeastern Colorado is testing as high as 64 pounds per bushel and is yielding from 20 to 40 bushels per acre. The big cattle ranch which was recently closed out and which is located in Morton and Stevens Counties Kansas, and Baca County, Colorado, is in this big wheat section. Wilson Dean, of Elkhart, Kansas, bought a big block of this land and they are selling it in small tracts. These parties bo't this land very reasonable and are selling it right. Good terms with six per cent interest given.

About twenty were there to enjoy a jolly time, Jack Richie, one of the most affable gentlemen on the road, of Kansas City, was in Haviland Monday making arrangements with the Navajo Theatre management to put on the really big film, "The Birth of a Race" which will be shown here August 21st. Mr. Richie visited at this office to the great gratification of the editor. We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks for the many deeds of kindness shown our dear husband and father during his last illness, also for the beautiful floral remembrances.

and Mrs. P. E. Tucker, when their daughter, Lillian Esther, united in marriage to Mr. Justice Prilliraan, of Conway Springs.

They were attended by Miss Prilliman sister of the as bride's maid and Mr. Ver non Tucker, brother the bride, as best man. The bridal party marched from the house out on the lawn where the ceremony was read by Rev. Isaac Woodard. A wedding supper followed.

About forty-five guests were present. Dr. and Mrs. Mitchell motored to Wichita last Friday evening returning Sunday evening.

They report the worst hail storm they ever sa'w. Car tops were shot full of holes, wind shields broken and sky lights in many buildings broken. Many hail stones were from five to seven inches in circumference. This will be the last week for some of our valued subscribers who have indicated that they want to; renew their subscriptions. Cooke were over from Greensburg on business this morning. We are glad to give publicity to the fact that Baer is reported to be quite improved the last few days. However, trouble never comes singly, for Linton Baer met with the misfortune of being kicked by a Ford, breaking both bones in his right forearm, Monday. Even the elements seem to be alligned against the progress of Haviland. Lightning recently fired and destroyed a very creditably looking depot at Mullinville, while our sway back leanto gets by and remains a monument of the Great Rock Island Railway.

Miss Ida Whitlow, of Wichita, has been here the past two weeks visiting friends and relatives. She is a member of the faculty of Friends University in Wichita and will be remembered by many, as Haviland is her former home. C. W. Hamilton was here from Winslow, today looking after some property interests.

His father was formerly engaged in the bakery business here. Mr. Hamilton is engaged in railroad. service with the Santa Fe in Arizona. 0.

M. Brown, of Greensburg, is assisting with the work in Baer's store during the illness of the senior member of the firm. Mr. Brown is a son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs.

Baer. Walter Fankhouser returned to Kansas City Sunday evening to resume treatment which is to continue nine weeks longer. Gause and Overman are engaged building a school house in the Pryor neighborhood nine miles south west of Haviland. Mrs. J.

They have sold practically three car loads of machines (Columbia Grafonolas) to satisfiled customers in the last three years. Council Meeting City Council met in regular session on Tuesday evening. After allowing a number of bills the discussions to the best method of improving the sanitation of the city was considered at length. The ordinances covering the subject were read and it was considered advisable to appeal to the common sense of the people for their cooperation in taking advantage of the pres-, ent opportunity to improve the health conditions of the community. We all know the danger of allowing flies to come in contact with filth of any kind.

The law compels us to keep it covered or removed. We have an opportunity of having it remo7ed without being compelled. Let's go. L. D.

5th, 192 ORDINANCE NO. F3. An ordinance providing for the levying 8f taxes for the year one thousand nine hundred and twenty (1920), in the city of Haviland, Kansas. Be it Ordained by the Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Haviland Kansas: SECTION I. That a tax for the current year be, and the same is hereby levied upon all real personal and mixed property subject to taxation within the limits of Haviland, Kansas, of eight (8) mills, in amounts and for the purposes respectifully as follows: For general purposes, three (3) mills on each dollar of the assessed valuation of Haviland, Kansas.

For bond redemption. five tenths (5-10) of a mill Haviland, on each Karsas. dollar of the assessed valuation of For street light maintenance, ore (1) miil on dollar of the assessed valuation of Haviland, Kansas. For improvement of street and alleys, two and five tenths (2 5-10) mills on each dollar of the assessed valuation of Haviland, Kansas. For street crossings fire-tenths (5-10) of a mill on each dollar of the assessed valuation of Haviland; Kansas.

SEC. 2. That the said taxes levied under this ordinance shall be certified by the city clerk to the county clerk of Kiowa county, Kansas. to be placed on the rolls for the year thousand nine hundred twenty (1920) for one, collection subject to penalties and tole collected in like manner as other taxes are collected by law. And such taxes so levied shall be paid into the city treasurer by the county treasurer according to law.
