DENVER. Her Beauties, Her Business, Her and Denver, Col, July aih, 1881 Dkar I raxscrkit Leaving your town a week ago yesterday we were carried over the Smoky Hill division making good timo through oue of the most, beautiful, poiiions of Kansas Arriving in Ellsworth, we stepped over to the licyortvr ollice, and had a pleasant chat knight of the composing sti'efc, Whu had been gazing upon our train as she pulled iu. lie reported Ellawor'h as lively end full of business. Viewing Ellsworth from tho depot one may see a very pretty town of about nine hundred inhabitants. From Ellsworth to Ellis is one stretch of line wheat crowing country.

The yield of wheat through this country tliis season is sufficiently large to prove very profitable yielding about two thirds of a full erop. We passed numerous fine faruis but for want of space will mention but one belonging to Mr. E. Thachcr, who a few years ago came to Kansas from Connecticut, purchased nine hundred and sixty acres' of land a few miles west of Victoria, and made that his home going into the farming business very extensively. Besides growing wheat, com, oats and other crops for which Kansas is noted, he has a fine cheese factory, and raises cattle, hogs, etc.

Mr. hacher is a man of enterprise, and is fast showing his worth to tho public. At about two o'clock, wc found our-self in Ellis enjoying antelope meat which Mrs. Taylor, tho proprietress of the Ellis House, so kindly furnished her guests. Hero we mot Mr.

L. Ramsey, formerly of Brookville, who says he is doing well in his new enterprise. Eight o'clock (fiuind us at Wallace, where wc took supper aud then re-newed our joiirw'jy-fecliug very much like "pounding ojir ear," as the boys put it. But' we? felt much relieved when Jake and offered us a chance to pound that ear on a bed made of thcSrrcaf U. S.

mail bags and the solid caf floor, which we did ample justico to oui ear not the floor. Thanks, Jake. We arrived lierc last Saturday morning, and Saturday being tho last day of the week we went to the K. P. House to buzz the Salina boys who put up there.

Among thoso we met are Ed Cordier and lady, Geo. Baglcy aud lady, Nelson Farley, Chas. Pierce, Chas. Kirk and Ed Wilder, and Jack Neugent of Brookvillc. Mr.

Russell, proprietor of (his house is also from Salina, an old resident of that place. He keeps a good house and is doing extremely well financially. We also met Messrs Markland, Sandon, Gay-lord, Purant, Sharp, Rockford, and several others from Salina, while "taking iu" the beautiful city of the west. Wo understand that Col. Palmer is improving rapidly, Denver, is tho "queen city of the west.

She has a population of 60,000, of which about is floating; and The above Drug Store keep DEUGS, of coustrurtion a number vastly in excess of the standard of tho regular army of the United States. Right here in Denver it is paying fifty thousand dollars monthly to its employees, which amount does not includo the salaries of its officers. The money which thiscompany.so largely disseminates in Colorado, greatly benefits both the floating and resident popula Hon. Thero are other roads giving nearly the same employment. The Denver New Orleans railway is the name of a new road now under way of construction from this point to New Orleans.

This company lias 15,000 ton of rails en route for this place. They commenced grading yesterday. Mr. Nelson Farley, an old Salina boy, has charge of a gang of men in the employ of this compauy. The Fourth of July in Denver was quite extensively celebrated.

Cole's circus, billed for the Fourth, duly made its appcarauce, aud carried away about $12,000. While many of the citizens were celebrating by going to 1 he circusj tho petty thieves who arc so numerous in Denver, celebrated by ransacking their houses and carrying off silver spoons, and other valuables that could easily be concealed about their persons. The morning of the Fourth, John T. Raymond opened his engagement with a comedy entitled ''Fresh, the American," which is ouo of the best comedy pieces wc ever had the pleasure of hearing, lie was supported by a very fine compauy each playing their parts with acknowledged ability. The week's engagement closed with favorite play'Col.

Seller." His engagement was a grand success. Altogether the circus, Raymond, lire works, and the three fires that occurred during the day, we think the day in Denver was quite generally observed. Billy, tho "kid" about uinetcen years of age, who is the leader of a gang of desperadoes; who robbed the U. S. mail down in the southern part of New Mexico about six mouths ago aud who is noted for his successful attempts and reckless courage iu rob-bingjstage8 was reported to have been seen in Deuver yesterday.

It has set the city all ablaze with excitement. Everybody Jias his eyes open, and is on the lookout to see "Billy the kid," and get the $1,800 reward which is offered for his conviction. He has been seen but once and by one party, though the police force aro all ready, with billy in hand to tap the young desperado on the head at sight, Denver Is quite well supplied with daily papers, having three morning papers and two evening papers. The Tribune and Republican contain forty-eight columns and the News fifty-six, of heir regular publications, besides which elaborate supplements are frequently issued. There aro two evening papers, viz Times and Press.

The Denver; Evening commenced publication the fourth day of this month, and is an able newsy sheet. Its editors are bent on making it the best evening paper, and it is already gaining the popularity for which it is so vigorously striving. The Press is tho paper your humble servant is holding cases on. With Regards. Frank.
