Bishop Weekly Sunday Night. Bishop Weekly preached in the U. B. church last Sunday night to a large congregation. His theme was America for Christ.

He talked for Home Missionary work more than for Foreign Mission work, and there is where the bishop and the writer agree. He said we are very sorry for the poor african in Africa but the nigger in this cous try gets very little sympathy; we pray for the Italian who is in his own country, but kick the dago, away from our door. He said the heathen was right on our door step pleading for succor. He said many things that were good and "Velie Motof Cars are guaranteed to be free from' defects in material and workmanship and we will replace free of charge (except transportation charges) for a period of one year from date of shipment, any and all parts proving defective, providing such defective parts are returned to the factory for inspection within thirty (30) days of replacement. An account of a trip made by Frank Bradfield from Enid, to Wallahalla, S. via Kansas City, Mbline, 111., and Louisville, Ky. "The five passenger Velie Touring Can left Enid, Ok a week ago t-rtay with Mr. Bradfield, his wife, three children and an extra pas- -senger, to break all records for long distance traveling with heavy loads. All told the car is carrying 1800 pounds, and in 425 miles from Enid here, the last 100 miles through heavy lains and deep mud but Jti.oo has been expended for lepairs.

We certainly had the pull of the trip for 18 miles down between Cottonwood Falls and Saffordville, Kansas," said Mr. Bradfield. "Hie roads were of gumbo mud and the wagons had cut deep ruts in the highway, making it almost impossible to pull through." "When the Velie car pulled steadily on, several of them (the formers) ran ahead to get a look at the make. They told me the pathfinders and all alike had been mired on that stretch of road and that the Velie car was was the first they had known to make it with the roads in that condition. But my car is here and none the worse for wear either." FORNEY Furniture and Auto Co.

The Brownell picnic, yesterday, was well patronized by La Crosse people. The Editor has a new cement walk in fiont of his residence. Chas Crock put it down. Wyatt Holloway is enjoying a visit from his parents, Mr. and Mrs.

W. H. Holloway of Adrian, Mo. Preaching at Pleasant Dale next Sunday at it o'clock a. m.

and at Eclipse at 3 p. m. Everybody invited Henry Dreany is in Colorado. He went to Pueblo last Monday and will remain jn that country until he gets well of the rheumatism. Mr.

J. J. Forney returned last Monday night from a few weeks' stay at Excelsior Springs. He thinks hir health much improved. The Brownell Picnic yesterday was a grand, success as far as the crowd was concerned.

La Crosse sent a big delegation to root for La Crosse in the ball game. LaCrosse took the game; the score was 8 to 5 Miss Abbie Bellport entertained at her home last Friday evening Those present were Maude Elias, Anna Krause, Minnie Oneal, Cla rissa Bellport, Nellie Fyler, and Leonard Young, Will Hall, Timothy Shotts, Louis Obenhaus, Will Moran and Will Laughlin. One Man Killed. A sad accident occured out at S. Buxton's, about twelve miles northeast of here, last Monday eve ning resulting in the death of one man and severe injuries for another.

It was about six o'clock that a bad looking storm arose. The threshers Mr. Buxton had a threshing crew working on his farm hurried to the house and arrived just as the storm reached the place. Three of the men stepped into the barn to get' out of the storm. In the barn loft was some 650 bushels of oats and other grain.

The wind became quite furious, and the barn, usable. withstand the strain, collapsed. One of the men escaped uninjured but the other two were covered with th debris. One of the gentlemen, Carl Attig by name, was smothered under the grain before aid could be gotten to him, and while the other was taken out alive he was severely hurt Mr. Carl Attig was a young man who had been in this county only four weeks.

He came here work in the harvest. His home was in Luverne, Iowa. The body was takep care of by undertaker Pittraan and is now in the Forney Under taking It will probably shipped to Iowa tonight. be Alexander was pulled off last Thurs day as per advertisement, and it was a big success. We took it in an hour or so long enough to discover that it was a happy occasion.

Mr. Young's address of welcome was a splendid speech; Mr. Malone of Jetmore, delivered a fine address and Frank' Russell's oration would be hard to beat any place by any one. The band music was all good and they made lots of it. The sports and contests were interesting and the merry-go-'round, refreshment stands and other concessions did a lively business.

Shryack's grove is a nice place for picnics and all the picnics at Alexander draw large crowds. A Good Ticket. Rush County Republicans have a right to be prouij of the county ticket they nominated last Tuesday, for the men who will make the race this fall on that ticket for the various ofii ces are all good men and nearly every one of them are exceedingly well qualified for the offices to which they aspire. It would be hard to find a better man than Joseph Sparks for Representative; H. P.

Scheuer-man for County Clerk: Adam Gie- sick for County Treasurer; Rudolph Marech for Register of Deeds; Frank U. Russell for County Attor ney; G. Stullken for Probate Judge; W. H. Ford for Sheriff; L.

A. Lati mer for Coroner; E. M. Lank for Superintendent of Instruction; H. C.

Kjeldsen for Surveyor; jLeonard C. Young for District Clerk, and George Britton for Commissioner. The Republican county ticket is a strong one, and the man this fall who insists that he votes for the men and not the. party will certainly have to consider this before he casts his ballot. The B.

U. G. Club gave a lawn party last Friday evening at the home of Miss Emadora Robinson. A pleasant time was enjoyed and refreshments served. Those present were, Reita Wollman, Hilda Benn, Zippie Bunn, Helen Little, Lola McCormick, Alma Grass, Lenore Kyle, Monica Diehl, Grace Oneal, Stella Wollman, Marie Krause, Alta Lank, Fern Wray and Ray Hall, Harry Grass, Will Krause, John Fyler, Paul Bunn, Leland Robinson, George Weber, Lloyd Mellick, Russell Chamberlain, and Lawrence Benn.

The fellow who Is full of hot air doesn't always manage to get up steam. One good swift kick will often accomplish more than a lot of kindness. Trouble' is the most obliging thing in the world. It will never dodge tho people who are looking for It. Some people can't even do their duty without patting themselves on the back.

Perhaps our clouds have a silver lining, but it generally takes other people to see it. Lots of us never put off till tomor row what we can have done for us today. It's the things we don't get that we should sometimes he most thankful for. Circumstances over which we have no control frequently take the form of wives. Many a fellow's lofty ideals extend no further than highballs.

Some people are so tireless that they become positively tiresome. The best man at a wedding is the fellow who isn't getting married. To greet misfortune with a smile is decidedly a one-sided flirtation. Lots of marriages merely demon strate that misery loves company. SCIENCE BRIEFS Our ladles who sip peppermint es sence will be horrified nt the chert ist's report, which shows that lager beer contains only 4 per cent of alco hol and peppermint essence 23 per cent.

Spanish telephone companies make their charges according to the occupation of the patron. Social clubs labor under the highest rate. All animals have a weather Instinct The approach of rain is indicated by the flight of swallows, by the cries of water fowl, and by the actions of cows and pigs. A LITTLE WISDOM You can turn a crank down, but he always turns up. While mere Talent pauses outside the threshold, Genius enters in and makes a successful bluff.

Half the world doesn't know what excuse the other half has for living. The man who draws on his imagination should not overlook to pin "no protest" to his draft. The world expects a man to make a fool of himself over a woman, jut it never forgives a woman who makes a fool of herself over a man. To know thyself Is wisdom; to know how not to impart that knowledge to others that's cleverness. Marry for money, and you wish you had married for love; marry for love, and you wish you had married for money.

True consistency is a jewel, and the most charming women display the least jewelry. Love in a cottage is romantic, but no mere woman objects to rose-colored silk curtains at the windows. You can't tell a man's character by his clothes, but you can often judge a woman's lack of it by hers. There is hut one thing worse than ignorance and that is Incorrect knowledge. Smart Set CHEER UP i You don't need a Lick telescope to see a silver-lined cloud.

The leading members of the In Bad club are those who imagine that everybody's "down on" them. Opportunity, far from "knocking but once upon tho door," camps permanently upon the doorsteps of most of us. The chap' who said "There is no balm in Gilead" probably watted for the balm to be delivered at his door with the morning's milk Clarence L. Cullon. PUNGENCIES An English title Is always one of the season's "best sellers." "Poets are born, not made." Which is only another way ot blaming it on the poor stork.
