East side of Bread v. ay, Lamed. Kansas. No Home. How touching and painful must be the following lines to ah intemperante, drunken husband and fathef.

For a father to once let tLe thought enter his mind that a child of his should ever come to this deplorable condition of being left in this vain world friendless and homeless on accout of his drunkeness must be terrible in the least. Twas midnight's sad and lonely hour, No moon was in the sky; The somber clouds did darkly lower And moaning winds swept by A little boy with naked feet Crept forth beneath the night, Alonathedarli and silent street, Trembling with cold aud fright- No home had he, all shelterless Along the street he fled; No mother's smile or warm caress That truest friend was dead. A drunken father's brutal ira Hid turned his tender feet, To wander without food or fire, Along the frozen street. Now fiercely sweeps the frigid storm The driving snow flakes fall Abeye that little shivering 'form, Crouching beside the wall. All night the storm beat fierce and loud Yet felt he not its dread, For by the Wall, in snowy shroud, The morning found him dead.

XAt'ROSSE, KANSAS. S. W. TAYLOR, Editob. Our Policy, i We intend to make some, radical changes in the future management of the Eagle; the mistakes of the past will be1 corrected, and, while we intend to give exact justice to all sections of our county, -we hope that none of our reorders will be so unreasona- bleas to censure us for attempting to convince the people that this i3 the proper place for the county seat.

This is the most important quesion of pol-icy that our people have to settle. Had Lacrosse reeeived a majority in the last election, we believe that it would have been the last county seat struggle in our history; but to suppose that Walnut City, situated only 8 miles from the south line of the county, and 16, from the north line, With the heavy population that is, in a fihort time, destined to spread over the northern portion, is the very height of folly. The removal of the county Beat from the oenter of the county Was a retrograde step beyond any kind of question, and did an injury to the besi interests of the county that it will take a long time to repair, jtlad )he county seat remained at Las -'crosse, there would have been a town iere twice as large as Lacrosse and City This, the first number of the "Eagle," is the largest paper ever published in Eush County, and contains as touch reading matter, and general news as any other paper published in "Western Kansas. "We do not say this boastingly, but because it is true; We do not carry any dsadhead advertisements or pubscrbers, but, by fair means, we will attempt to accomplish that for which we work. We have this to say to our subscribers, that when your time is out, your paper will be stopped, and therefore) we hope that Jl wi'l try and either pay cash in ad-' Vance or give your notes, payable the -1st of September, 1878, and thereby Becure to yourselves and families the best paper in Western Kansas.

We desire to have regular communica tions from cl parts of the county, and most especially crop reports and bews items, if every farmer will keep the Eagle, on file for one year, he will have a complete record of the events Occurring during the year. Easteurx, Teacher. Harvest will be upon us now very soon and that before we are ready. Farmers should try and be as the harvest, as early as the urgency of the case demands, they should be very energetic to, in taking their har vest off and put the surplus oil the earlist market as that is generally the best market during the fall and most farmers are obliged to sell, as wheat is the staple product of this part of the west, and, consequetly, is the odIv available means whereby they can derive the benifits of a surplus. That perty he told it to tells me that he refered to the communicated article signed "Reporter W. in the last issue but one, of the "Progress." If you meet a man from that place, it is either "Judge," "Squire," "Colonel," "Chairman" or some oth er man of renown. But if you find out his true character and record, he is but a common man after all, and the very commonest kind of a common man at that. PROSPECTUS, The Lacrosse Eagle will make its appearance on Monday, May 13th 1878, and it is the desire of the proprietors that every farmer, tradesman or professional man in the county should Take The Paper. It will be a six column folio; patent outside, and filled with all the current loeal news of the county. We intend to make the Eagle one of the best county papers in Western Kansas; and, in order to do so, it is necessary that the people Should come forward and help to Sustain It.

Rush county has reached that period in her history when it would e-ven be a down-right disgrace to her citizens if she coul'i not afford to maintain a news-paper; hitherto the paper ventures in this county have been only experiments, and have scarcely paid expenses; but nowj with five or six thousand inhabitants, the people can, and ought to support A Live paper. We deem it unnecessary to further urge the intelligent people of cur c'ounty, and those who desire to help placS Rush in the frohl; ranks ol pro gression, to authorize us to place their names on our Li. oF subscribers, farthef than to say the "Eagle" siarls out with good prospects, and will be issued regularly. The Increase fa? sizfj; attended as it is with additional expense, forces us to the necessity of placing the price at two dollars per annum, the same price charged by neighboring papers. Aceonipaning This Prospectps' is a blank note.

If you desire to take the ptvper, (and we certainly think you oujht to do so) and have not the money to spare now, please fill up the blank sign it, and return to S. W. Taylor, We take this method in order to place the paper within reach Of Every Pabmb the county. Those who have overpaid On the Progress will be credited on their subscription to the 'Eagle." We earnestly desire to hear from all those who will come forward and helji to Sustain ai? enterprise thai; the county cannot 4ord to d'-s perise with. Do not lay this asicte and fcrget it, but attend to it at once, sO that we may know just how much enterprise our people posstss.
