Samuel Porter our treasurer elect is ono of Buffalo township's oldest settlers. Ho has ever been indentfied witli what ever was for tho best interests of Jewell county. Elder Garner of the Christian church conducted the funeral services of Mrs. McLean, at the Star church last Sunday. We were at Randall last week and took a peep at the Editor and found him in the middle of work with his sleeves rolled up.

He is fearful ugly but quite a genial fellow withal, and we predict success for the Tribune. The election passed off quietly, but Kibbie the nominee ot the Republican was snowed under to the tune of nine teen and consequently his supporters are considerably downed. Once in a while an Independent gels there. The Democrats had out no township ticket aud tbey generally supported Burnham. We anxiously await returns from the county as we have nothing definite at the present, wonder if there won't be a slight change in the Jewell County officials.

There is a smoldering hope iu our bosom that such will be the case, but it may go glimmering. BlLLIB There are a few urchins in and about Randall whose sole delight anil occu pation seem to be to grosely insult people. Such conduct should be slop ped by tbeir parents. If the parents do not, the authorities should take a hand in the matter. I i no place where your scribe has ever been, has he met with a more well behaved class of young people than at Randall.

Nevertheless there are a few young and htdies(y) who think tbey are uncommonly smart Tbey take advantage of church aud public gatherings to let the people know iio'-v smart they really are. They will coon so thoroughly cuuvuice the people, of their smartness, that they will be considered a public nuisance. Many men in this neighborhood have in lime past been loud iu their ccm plaints about the bunkers ruling tlm country? But when their party places a banket iu the field against as good a farmer as we have, they voted for the banker almost to the man. We wonder what should induce them to do so, wheu, according to their own state uient it was against their intents to vote as they did. It is reported that a certain young gentleman recently took two of Ran dall's fair ones out buggy riding aud when several miles from town the la' dies had to get out and push so that they might be able to get to the top of a hill- lhe it tie extreme weakness of the team or the poor driving that caused the inconvenience," uaturally arises.
