Howe, an old and respected citizeu of Limestone towusuip, which occurred about noon that day. Mr. Howt had been suffering for some time with a carbuncle on his neck, which was very painful, but none of his many friends even suspected a fatal termination and some ef his friends did not even know that he was ill. Other complications probably aggravated by this, quickly carried him away, and many warm friends join the surviving relatives In mourning bis loss. Mr.

Howe was about fifty years of age, and as near as we can learn, moved to the farm he occupied at the time of death about seventeen years ago. The funeral took place at 1 o'clock Wednesday, the remains being buried in the cemetery near his home. Brody's track south of the Otego, were paid for their trouble by getting to stand around in the cold drizzling rain all afternoon and returning home in the evening dis gusted.

Owing to a disagreement as to the start and the failure of their man to run through, the Burr Oak crowd declared no race and refused to give up the money, which still remains in the stakeholder's hands. The doctor is a strong candidate for the position of secretary of the state board of health, and has not only the support of the entire medical fraternity of tnis section, but also the best wishes of hosts of frirnds in this and Smith counties for his success.

He is well Qtted for the position and if appointed will we believe make a capable and efficient officer. A. M. Mallory couldn't see to tell whether he gave a customer ten cent's worth of steak for a dollar or a dollar's worth for ten cents on Tuesday morning. The cause of his excitement was the arrival of a tine girl at his home at three o'clock that morning.

We acknowledge cigars in honor of the event. J. II. Irion and son Robert, who have for some time been workinz in the blacksmith shop of the late Wm. Small took their departure Saturday for Table Rock, where Mr.

Irion will take charge of a shop. We are informed that another blacksmith will be employed here at once. We would call the attention of some of our merchants to the manner in which merchants in neighboring towns are holding their trade. Thej are convincing the public through their local papers that they are offering bargains. Some of our merchants are doing well in this line, others are allowing a part of their trade to be drawn elsewhere.
