Every feeling and expression of dissatif action with the work of the convention by disappointed candidates for nominations is undemocratic. The convention is the tribunal which all have agreed upon as the umpire between them and according to the agreement each is bound to abide by the decision. A Sad Mistake The convention at Leavenworth last week made a sad mistake when they placed W. 1). Kelley upon the State ticket.

While Mr. K. is undoubtedly a smart man, and probably would make a good officer still there is enough competent white men to fill positions of public trust. And further Than any one. Call and see them if you want to renew your old loan or make a new one, or if you want a second mortgage.

The only apparently just exception to the rule of absolute acquiescence in the action of the convention is alleged by some to arise from the unlawful or corrupt action of the members of tho convention, led to their conclusions, not by considerations of the welfare of the party, but by personal and sometimes avaricious motives. But is not the evception more apparent than real? The candidates submit their claims to this particular convention to be determined without appeal and according to the contract are bound to yield absolute acquiescence to the manner of their disposition. A candidate puts ljimtelf in a sorry plight when, after being -DEALEUS IN- been it would have been far better to have placed a man in his stead who could have polled the full party strength. As it is, probably the strongest man on tho ticket Hon. L.

There is no dishonor in an honorable defeat, uhilca victory tainted with anything undemocratic is a stain that we cannot afford to rest under. Let the democracy meet the enemy on honest and meritorious issues, and on such, either march to an honorable victory or a like defeat.
