Tho old chestnuts about putting up stove pipo will soon bo afloat. Mr. J. Dunton, of Salem, was in town last Saturday with a load of fin poaches. He found ready Bale for them at $3 por bushel, L.

H. Biiggs was somewhat surpris-ep last Friday, when constable Win, Bates thrust a revolver under his nose and told him to "put up" his hands. Briggs was wanted for forgery committed last March. Uo had several times stated lie would rot be taken and went armed. But constable Bates was to quick for him and got the "drop" first.

He pleaded not cuilty before Justice Cnnari, and adjourned his trial till Oct 3d. In default of bail ho was remanded to jail. Bills have bei posted inviting the people to the Jewell county Fair, Sept. 27th to 30th. Every resident of the county should take special pride in making this the most successful exhibition ever held in Jewell county.

True, this has not been a favorable year for growing flno samples of grain and vegetables, yet enough havu boen raised to make a lino display if the farmers will take the trouble to place them on exhibition. Take your products to the fair and help show what Jewell county can do even in a dry season. Help make tho fair a success. the delight of yie ladeies are among the pleasures never to be forgotten, and when we remember In greeting us they greeted the cause we represented we feel an added thriFl of joy in the wonderful advances in public sentiment In the temperance cause. Among the places of interest visited, we wilt mention the new college building under process ot erection, and from the site of whict one can have a view not only of the entire city but of the Solomon valley for miles; the new Water Works with its tii MX) nigh from which the citizens of Stockton may receive the life-giving beverage without stint' the Electric Light Works where lightning is manufactured and dispensed over the city as an illuminating agent; the new Iron bridge across the Solomon river; and tin) grove of natural timber that coven about ten acres of ground adjoining the citv, and which is superb in Its faciilles for accommedlating all who love outdoor life or amniusement: And altogether the Fourth Semi-annual Convention has been one of the most pleasant and profitable ever held in this District, and we desire to urge upon every local Union to see to it that they are hereafter always represented by at least one delegate at out District Conventions.

Also that the members of oar own Union in Burr Oak, and every other lady or gentleman in the city who 1b at all interested in temporance worK atttend our weekly meetings, where all the different departments of work and points brought out at the convention will bo discussed with the hope of eulargiug oui work iu the future. A strange dog afflicted with rabies came into town and bit several other dogs. This Btarted the people to killing off their stock of canines, and the town has teen ia a state of quarantine as far as dogs are conserned, for th past ten days. I cannot sell yon beer, but I can sell you harness, saddles, collars etc, at prices that will defy competition. W. R.

A. Bright was present and being State secretary, and superintendent of work iu a measure has full charge of the work. And by his efficiency and thoroughness made the two days session a success, Uus bright lace will long be remembered by the peo-plo, and especially the boys and girls present Rev Bowman, McCey, Porter, Missionary Kizer, Miiler, Howard, Mrs. McClung and many others added much to the success of the work, The efficiency of our president was especially marked and should bo commended, Messrs Millor Howard and Berry were appinted a committee to locate the next meeting. Meeting adjourned after the evening session Sunday evening with everyone feoling that it was good to bo there.
