Johnson shipped a car of cattle to the Kansas City market Tnesday E. E. Eitel of Grigsby has purchased an interest in the West Side Garage. Jay Hines and father left tor a stock sale of Angus cattle near Rossel, Kansas, Tuesday. J.

W. Green and Mrs. Mellisa Brown of this city were married Monday evenAng at Oberlin, Kansas. A fine baby girl was born, Saturday Jan. 28, to E.

P. Graves and wife of the Manning neighcorhood. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hull are the proud parents of a fine baby boy, born Friday, Feb.

3rd. Elmer Munden, who operated the Scott City ice plant last year, is in town on business, this week. Rob't Sharpe and wife have rented Mrs. Clarence Dickhut's bongalow, in the southwest part part of town. Judge Boyer issued a marriage license yesterday to J.

Glen Neal of Healy and Miss Bessie O. Smith of Utica. S. W. Harris and Dr.

C. B. Stern of Oberliu, Kansas, are here on business. Mr. Harris purchased some land near here recently.

E. F. Westby is here this week on business. Earl is making his home with his parents in Hutchinson and Frank Eddingfield is looking after the ranch east of town. Theo.

Lockard of St. Franis, arrived here Friday night, for a few davs business visit. Mr. Lockard is an extensive land owner in this county, Chas Harkness of Lake township, received a letter from Emil Votipka, a former neighbor of his, requesting him to have the Republican sent to him. Mrs.

L. W. Cretcher received word last Thursday that her mother had died at her home in Illinois. Mrs. Cretcher left that night to attend the funeral.

There is talk of abolishing Hollywood, probably about all the effect it would have is that it might shorten some of the associated press dispatches. California hasn't anything on us as to balmy weather, part of the time yesterday was comfurtable with the door open. Kinder gives a feller a call to the "wilds." According to one of our exchanges an old lady in that town says she dont read the papers very much, but whenever she does pick one up, it says, "Arbuckle case just given to the jury." Walter Gunckel and wife of the Manning neighborhood, were in town Monday having just been released from quarantine for diphtheria. Mrs. Gunckel and one daughter were seriously ill with the disease for several weeks.

This office is indebted to L. C. Bakfor, not a sample, but a real feed of er that mighty good chocolate candy, he laid in for winter. He also brought a nice portion of it to the conncil room Monday evening. The Workers Conference of the Christian church gave a six o'clock dinner at the R.

H. Crabtree home, Tuesday evening, in honor of J. D. Zimmerman, the State Representative of Sunday School work. About 38 guests were present.

Up in Sherman county of which Goodland is the county-seat, they, evidently are having 'war' over consolidated schools, as one teacher has held school for six weeks, alone while all the pupils of the districts have attended a consolidated school. Elsie Carpenter and children spent last week with her brother, Roy Helfrick and family. John Radnor and wife spent Monday at the Jas. Radnor home. Wm Carpenter was transacting business in Scott City, Saturday, May Murr spent last week with her grandmother. John Hopper and Ted Griffin were Scott City visitors Saturday, Lee Hillery of Winona is visiting at Will Whitham's this week.

Miss Mervin Brown was a Scott City visitor Monday. Dewey Epler hauled feed from the John Hopper place Monday. John Whitham delivered cane seed to Modoc, Monday. Paul and Vernon Rishel were dinper guests at the John Whitham home Sunday. Ellsworth Case and family attended literary at Primrose, Friday night.

Elmer Carson spent Sunday night Paul Riskel. Rev. Umberger of Garden City, one of the former members ot the Tiller and Toiler staff of Larned, but now pastor of the Baptist church at Garden was in town yesterday and spoke at the Baptist church in this city last evening in the interests of the Continuation Campaign of the New World Movement of the Baptist church. He left here last night for Topeka to attend the state conterence of his church. He being a former newspaper man, of course naturally looks a new town over, and says he has traveled over many states in the Central West and that Scott County has the poorest excuse for a conrt house he has ever seen.

V. Seward, township trustee of Keystone township Motion made and carried approving the application of Mrs. Hannah Orr for mothers aid in the amount nf $25.00 per month. Motion made and carried allowing the following bills: Hannah Orr, mothers aid $25.00 Motion made and carried accepting the annual report of the township trustee of Scott township. Motion made and carried accepting the road viewers report in the T.

A. Ludlow road wherein a part of it was allowed and allow J. W. French $150.90 damages for land taken and A. A.

French $37.50 for land taken and said parties to execute deed to Scott County covering said right of way of road. Motion made and carried accepting the petition and bond of Wm. Poos, and others for a road in Isbel Township and appoint as viewers A. Kendall, L. S.

Robb and F. W. Sperling to meet at Scott City, Kansas on the 27th day of 1922 and proceed to view said road. Motion made and carried allowing Joe Hess $75.00 as road damages for three acres of land taken for a road in Isbel township upon the execution of a warranty deed to Scott county covering said land deposited in the Modoc State Bank. Motion made and carried allowing the following bills.

Mrs Arleigh Yeaton, who was taken to the Garden City hospital, is reported much improved. Charley Simms was quite badly cut about the mouth and one tooth broken while attempting to cut some kindling with a hatchet at the school this week. He was taken to Scott City where Dr. Gafford dressed his wounds. Bert Allen, who has been making his home in this locality the past year has suddenly disappeared.

He was lured awav for a drive on Sunday and has not been heard from since. We anticipate some thrilling description of punctures, holdups and blow-onts immediately upon his retorn. J. C. Hopper, of Hutchinson, is in this city on business today.

Court is still in session and probably will continue through next week. Mrs. C. O. Rogne and Mrs.

J. B. Morris motored to Garden City this morning. Mrs. Arthur Cope of Trenton Illinois passed away Sunday, January 29.
