It is very gratifying to us to be able to say that never within the knowledge of the oldest inhabitant has winter wheat looked so promising, Some of our exchanges from the eastern part of Kansas report the crop there as liable to be half a yield if indeed it will be so much but not so here. The frequent and heavy snows of last winter kept the ground fully protected and the result is there is not a poor piece of wheat in Trego county. John A Nelson, Atty. number of prominent committees in the house, and was author of the bill creating the Twenty-third judicial district. He defeated the attempt to cut off a tier of townships from the southern part of Lane county and strenuously opposed the bill increasing the number of people required to organize new counties, and in every way in his power proved himself a valuable man for the west to have the halls of the state councils. No member in the house or senate has more warm friends than Judge Osborn, He has been through the hard times on the Kansas border and they say of him that he was never knowa to forget a friend. He has known what it is to be without money in a new country.
