Morehead, aged 68 years. Deceased had been' sick about a week with erysipelas in the head. The funeral services took place in Miss Boling's school building, and a large number of our citizens were present and followed the remains to the grave. William D. More-head was born in Logan county, Kentucky, in 1818, joined church when but a young man of 17.

He removed to McLain county, Illinois in 1804, where he was for many years deacon in the Baptist church. He came to Scott county last September, and had gained many friends here, all of whom regret his sudden taking off. He leaves a daughter and one son to mourn his departure, who have the sympathy and kind words of the entire community, city prospecting. Clark the enterprising nnd rustling business manager of the Chicago Lumber Company at this point, has received an elegant set of platform scales, which he has placed in the front of his lumber office. --Luther West surprised his many Cold-water friends by dropping down ou them Wednesday. Mrs. F. A. Parsons arrived from Wellington Tuesday, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. C.

G. Lamed, and both are at present living on Mr. Parson's beautiful farm north-west of the city. Mrs. Par E.

P. Hovey, of Wichita, was looking at the wonder of the west last Monday. A. F. Sloper, of Long Lake, Illinois, has taken up his residence in Scott county.

L. T. Eastman's wife and daughter A base ball club has been organized here consisting of the following nine: John L. Keeve, Eugene Nutld, Frank Boling, Burr lirid-well, P. A.

Sexton, Ciias. Waite, P. T. Phipps, Jim Wells, and Sam. Clark.

The boys have challenged the Leoti nine, and the game will take place on the Leoti base ball grounds on Saturday. A number of our citizens will accompany the boys, and it is said that considerable money will cha.nge hands. We hope to see our club return home with the "belt," although they have had but little practice together, we will give an ac-caunt of the game next week. Seribblings from No. 3.
