THE MINNEOLA ERA PAYS FOR THE Giiieaa'o Is published in the Interest of MINNEOLA, Th.C Secoad Best Town County, Ashland 1 people at the ranch yesterday. It was evinced that the young squire was somewhat flustrated last Monday. Cubit's dart may be the means of that little canary's death yet- Daniel Sherman exchanged his Lerd of cattle to James Jarvis, of Ulysess, last week for the latter's farm a few miles south of town. John Cooper and lady were the most graceful light fantastic trippers who participated in that amusement at the ranch on the 4th. Misses Ella Waring and Ada Pier-pont, of Wiiburn, and Miss Linnie Newman, of this city, were pleasant callers at this office last Thursday.

Mrs. Orear and sister, Hattie, entertained their young friends to the perfect satisfaction of all present, Saturday evening. Ice cream and lemonade were disposed of in good styles Dr. Davis and family left last Monday for their new home in Nebraska. Mrs.

Davis in company with her sister, Jennie, will visit her parents in Missouri before going to her new home. A CARD OF THANKS. 3- came from central Missouri in the month of February '82. Mr. Kilpatrick has his farm well improved, 80 acres under fence and well stocked with cattle, a good wind pump supplies the best of the life-giving fluid for botli the house aud stock yard, 45 acres of cood corn, oats, millet, 15; sorghum, 15, and the best truck patch in the township.

The trees from grafts that were secured east and grown here, and having no change of climate.to undergo have done remarkably well. It is proof that the nearer home nursery stock can be secured the better for the purchaser and the more hardy the tree. L. A. WEIGHT.

Mr. Wright, formerly of Illinois, moved to the Piatt valley of Nebraska but not being satisfied in the spring of '83 moved to southwest Kansas and located on a fine claim two miles southwest of Minneola. His first improvmants were the erection of a good sod house and sinking his auger for water. Having had experience with both bored and dug wells in Nebraska, he used discretion with his knowledge here which has proven of much value. Mr.

Wright is one of those indefatigable workers, as his well improved farm indicates. He has 49 acres of corn, 8 of wheat, 5 of oats, 15 of millet and 20 of sorghum. The five acres of orchard and truck patch indicate that the hand of industry has them under subjection. He says that cane is surely indigenous to this country. Having made molasses from sorghum for the past two falls, he is fully convinced that the time is not far distant when the sugar and molasses made from Kansas, cane will be sold in many markets in the United States.

GEOKGE CAEBAUGH Kansas has few men who till the soil for pleasure only, but this bachelor farmer seems to be one of that number, as his labors indicate. Being an old settler, ie is perfectly conversant with the nature of the soil and its adaptability to cer-tain cereals and garden vegetables.
