Mr. Neely says he has only been at home four nights since his nomination for sheriff. The Democrats must be away off if it takes so much work to secure their votes. He is certainly afraid Alcorn will get the entire vote of the county. Our remark last week that there were gambling tables in town, brought forth a howl from a point we least expected.

The statement was general, and made entirely on suspicion. However, if it pinches anyone, we care not how loud he squeals. Scott Alcorn, Republican candidate for sheriff, visited the cily Monday. He has spent some time in various parts of the county and is meeting with all possible encouragement. He is a young man of ability and pleasing disposition, is the regular nominee of the party and is justly eutitled to the entire support.

As a successful business man of Minneola he has won the confidence and esteem of those who know him best. From Sheriff Sughrue we learn of an unfortunate killiug which occured last week four miles west of Neutral City, No-Man's-Land. Some weeks since a man named Carter killed a storekeeper and skipped. Last week he was thought to be back, and a committee of Regulators went to a dug-out where he was thought to be. Presently John Carter, a brother of the man wanted, approached the dug-out, and on seeing the hostile forces, fired on them.

The returned the fire, putting eleven balls through him. He is dead. The man wanted was not there, as thought, and is still at large. (Clipper.) ohn Stockton was called to Missouri the first of the week, by the sudden death of his mother. Nine thousand dollars was recently refused for a vacant lot in Kingman.

It seems that Kansas soil is keeping up in prices. Scott Alcorn, the Republican candidate for sheriff, dropped in on us while in the capital Monday. Scott is a jolly boy but he can't "get there" for Sheriff. If Scott don't "get there," who will, Wade? Ed. Allen B.

Sayles, of the Era, and Charley Hall came down from Minneola Monday. Bro- Sayles took Tuesday's train for Kingman. He ha3 sold out his interest in the hardware business and will start, soon after his return, on a prospecting trip throughout Colorado. The republican party lash isn't being applied as rigorously as it was awhile. The would-be besses and conveation fixers begin to realize that they can't blindly force the intelligent voters of Clark county to take down the dose they fixed np.

Such independence ox the part of the voters of both parties, arues well for the future government of Clark county it Land Office at Garden City Kan. Aug 10 1887.
