At the end of the eighth inning the game stood one in favor ojf the home team, and the most intense interest prevailed and considerable betting was done; A. Lewis went to the bat, but struck out; Andrews followed and was struck out also. Wilburn's chances then looked slim.

Mr. Snodgrass, of Ashland, candidate for register of deeds, paid his first visit to Minneola last Monday and Tuesday, He was the first recorder by appointment and made a most efficient officer. The call for a meeting of the old soldiers of this vicinity, on Saturday last, was not very well responded to, probably from the fact that it was not generally known. There are a large number of old veterans within a radius of ten miles, and it would be of mutual benefit to all if they could be got together, and an association formed. We call the attention to our readers to the ad of Ilothwell Cline, real estate dealers in Wilburn.

They are both fine everything was quiet, huaaenly strike tick catch went the ball it was a foul and out. The catcher held up the ball with a look of triumph, a murmur of approval went up from the Minneola people, and the pitcher and players who heard the foul, started in. When lo! the umpire declared he "didn't hear it." The betting orj partiality had rendered his sense of hearing useless. To call the batter out would make the inning a whitewash, and leave Minneola one tally ahead, and the last half inningyet to be played. It would not do.

He still declared "he didn't hear it." The crowd hissed, the pitcher dropped his head, aud for a moment the captain hesitated in going on with the game. Forbearance had almost ceased to become a virtue. He finally threw the ball to the pitcher, who truthfully remarked "that Th first month of Autumn. 1-Get ready for the fall boom. Vanderslice, Probate judge at Dodge City, on August 13 1887 viz: F.lias McCray. of Appleton, iviis. for the no 615U sw sec 23 tp2S 24 w. Tie name the following witnesses to wove his manner that the runner was obliged to push it out of the way to get on the base; It was, out of course; "did the umpire call it so? oh no, "safe on third" he cried. The Wilburns made eleven scores before they could bs put out so plain that it couldn't be denied, and that as by the catcher taking in a foul that went up about two or three rods, the umpire had the words "safe on a foul," in his mouth, but by that time his own nine had become ashamed of him, and began to retire to the field before he could say the word.

The Minneolas went to bat but made only two scores. In this inning the umpire disgraced him self still more. Cross was running from first second base. He resiched the base before the baseman could put the ball on him. "Out ou the second," cried the umpire.

The baseman called out to the umpire saying that he did not put the ball on him. "Out on the second," yelled the umpire, determining that not even his own men should interfere with his base authority. Cross retired in silent disgust. At the close of the game the Wilburns were niue ahead, but by right the Minneola club had won. The umpire wisely retired at once, but ho left a record that will make him long remembered at this place.

We admit that it is impossible for an umpire to please all. but when he knowingly does wrong, and is told so even by the men he is trying to favor, and refuses to right, the wrong, then he becomes a proper subject, for censure. Some of the visitors thought our loys ought not to censure the umpire's conduct so severely and at the close of the game, a few hot words ensued; but throughout the entire game the visiting club proved themselves gentlemen and the best of feeling is entertained toward them. The Minneolas feel confident they can beat them and in an another column will be found a challenge. Challenge.

The game was called at about three o'clock with the Wllburns at the bat. Aside from the players there were between seventy-five and one hundred spectators present.

Wilburn -being largely reprsented; Geo. R. Cochran, one of Wilburn's citizens, acted as umpire. At the end of the first ioniug the game stood one to two in favor of the home team. At the end of the second Wilburn led by one score, and at the end -f the third they had run up another.

In the fourth inning two strong grounders- by the Minneolas scored them four "runs which cut down Wilburns majority by two. In the fifth inning Cross went to' the bat and as usurJ struck a fine fly, but for oucs the fielders missed it, Lucius followed with a fine right fielder, on -which he made second and Cross third base; A fine grounder from Holcomb's bat scored Cross and Lucius and another from W.
