A person who is timid about the vatcr can overcome the greatest pari of the UiCieulty of learning to 6iui by the proper use of a wash basin. The obstacle that nervous persons meet in the water is not the conscious fear of drowning, but an involuntary nervous shock that causes tLem to gasp for air even before their faces are under water. It is this gasping for breath that drowns people. They cannot control the gasping, and consequently they often snap for breath when their moutJ are undei waier.

As the buoyancy of a human body is easily disturbed, a fsw pints or quarts of water swalloweO in these involuntary gasping acts serve to sink a person who otherwise would float long enough for help to arrive. WlLstlN for- TY. is hereby ir.vcn thai Fruik im-ock. Since the arrival of the glass factory employes in this city, there has been a decided advance in the rents charged both for houses and rooms, the direct result of the advance being that these newcomers are so anxious to obtain quarters that they have, in several instances, offered to pay even more than the house or rooms were renting for. It has never been known to be the case that a landlord would rent property for less than the amount offered by prospective tenants, and when some newcomer would approach lb-agent or landlord and state that this amount or that sum would be paid, it followed that the price was thenceforth and forever fixed provided that the amount offered was more than had been intended to charge. Wo know of instances where lass plant employes have gone to lano-lords whose houses have been occupied by local people, the rent at present being $10 per month, and offrri -g to increase the rent to $15 per mouth.

Only yesterday did we hear of a case where a lady had rented some rooms tor $10 per month, and they were occupied by the people who ha rented them at that pric-, when, in answ -r-ing a knock at the. door, she was informed that "it didn't make any difference if the rooms were rented, we will ive you $11 per month and pay you a month in advance right In justice to the city of Fredonia, whose growth must be steady, and alwa forward, this evil siiouid ceas If you cannot find a vacant hous and re unable to secure rooms or immediate use, remain quiet fo- a time.
