Our old stand-by John Orth is again pounding the big drum. Will Zimmerman and Phil Hohl was voted in as members Monday night. Fred Roelfa has ordered a new uniform. He will appear in it on Decoration day. The band received many com pliments on their playing at the ball game last Saturday.

The programs will be out Sat urday, read, mark and inwardly digest them, then buy tickets for yourself and family. The minstrel boys are putting in all their time craeking jokes, they all have a comic smile on them in consequence. The Misses Rees, Wharton and Hohl, were visitors at rehearsal Monday night, also F. H.Mc Ferren and brother-in-law Mr. Clarence Diehl.

The band boys has worked hard on the music for the concert next Tuesday, and will render it in fine style. Do not forget the date, May 21st. Chester Stehwien is making himself popular with the boys, altho the youngest member he is not the least in regard to music, for he plays a very good alto. Our saxaphone players Orville Appel and Art Stehwien are com ing to the front. Theo.

Weihe is also working on his soprano sax aphone, and we expect to hear its melodious tone soon. We would like to see a boys band started. It would not only be a good recreation for thtm but would give their thoughts and i- deas a better turn, and perpetuate a good band. Think it over, boys. Mt.

Pleasant Heiko Feldmann is working for Fred Willard. Miss Anna Mehl visited with Miss Emma Schmidt. Rev. Humfeld and Carl Boldt went to Reno co Friday Herman Boldt is learning the carpenter trade in Ellinwood. John Keller visited with his son, Ed, in Barton co last week.

Miss Clara Schmidt is working for Mrs. Al Volkland in Bushton. Mrs. Robt. Springer and son, Otto, visited with friends in Ly ons Monday.

Quite a number of this vicinity attended the ball game in Bush-ton Saturday. Edd Allinger and sisters, Emma and Lucy, Louisa Roelfa, and Mela Mafferman visited at Henry Hoolcher's Sunday. Woodman assessment number 225 is called for the month of May. Neighbors please be prompt in paying your Asst. Remember you can pay them on or befoi the last day of the month.

Heed! an ordinance has been passed that when a neighbor does not pay his asst. before the last day of the month he goos suspended and what would become of all this money you have paid in if you should die or get killed before you could reinstate, think of this and be prompt about what is your duty. W. H. Kitchen of Frederic, Miss Archie Elizabeth Dix and Mr. Arthur L. Rollins of Chase were united in the bonds of holy matrimony.

Rev. H. J. Dueker spoke the words that u-nited this young couple for life. After the ceremony the guests sat down to a table spread richly with viands tastly served.

This young couple will make their home in Chase, as the groom has oharge of a Rural route goingout of Chase. They received a goodly number of nice presents. The News joins in wishing them a long and useful wedded life. The ball game Saturday with Ellinwood, was in the order of a merry-go-round. The Ellinwood boys were out-classed from start to finish.

The wind made it difficult fielding, and our boys being all old players, had decidedly the best of it. Powers of Ellinwood was batted freely and almost at will. The boys got 9 clean hits off him. gave their grand entertainment at the halt to a large and attentive audience. Each piece was rendered in a pleasing manner. Tne ladies deserve much oredit for the excellent work done to be gotten up in so short a time. Everyone was satisfied that he had his money's worth. This speaks highly for the Order.

After the program a delicious lunch was served, consisting of ice cream and cake, coffee and buns. The net proceeds amounted to about $25. This should be an encouragement for the ladies to try something of this kind again in the future. Under the new law, May, 80th, better known as Decoration or Memorial Day, is bound to be a quiet one in Kansas. This law provides as follows: Section 1.
